Makarov by a nose over Kea

Makarov has had an up and down career

Makarov 2012 WJC + 12-13 WHL work horse season = UP
Makarov 2013 WJC +12-13 WHL Playoffs = Down

... goalies can come out of no where... he still very well could be a future starter for us

I've got Kea after Ruhwedel, I think. And just a hair ahead of Makarov.

In my rankings, I had: 11. Kea; 12. Ullmark; 13. Flynn; 14. Ruhwedel; 15. JGL.

I see Kea as a potential 3C right now, which IMO is more valuable organizationally than a bottom-six winger (Flynn) or a 6/7 D (Ruhwedel). Flynn turns 25 this summer and I don't see much room for growth in his game, so he'll likely remain a serviceable bottom-six winger that can provide some scoring depth. I'm also weary of getting ahead of myself in ranking Ruhwedel too high, as he had a small NHL sample size and saw mostly protected minutes, so I won't project him too high at this time.

As for the goalies, I have Ullmark ahead of Makarov because of his solid play in Sweden, including a stint in the SEL where he'll play out next season. However, I do think if Makarov were behind a better defense, they'd be rated closer in my eyes.

Ruhwedel isn't a 6/7... You'll realize about half way through next year

While I tend to agree, I'm not sold that he's a top 4 guy either.

I think he's going to have a nice career as a reliable 3rd pairing guy that is just all-around solid and can not look terribly out of place playing 20 min due to others' injuries.

While I agree (and voted for him to boot), it's a bit early to be making definitive statements like this.

Nice encapsulation. This group is all very close, yet Kea as stud 3C is within his reach. I was weighting Flynn a bit on his useful play as a pro - I don't think he'll ever go higher in the rankings - but Kea has that toolset to be a real rock in the 3-spot and should be a mover.
