It's not what Pierre McGuire/Emerick/Olczyk say (okay what they say is also annoying).
The bigger problem is how they sound....it sounds like three guys yelling at each other and making a big deal out of every play. You don't wanna be too laid back as a commentator but you don't need to sound like that....gives the viewer a headache and it really turns you off from the game.
The more I think about, this is exactly the problem with NBC broadcasts.
Too much yelling. By everyone.
Put Strader on the mic, Pierre in between the benches, and Kevin Weekes in the studio. Problem solved.
It always astounded me how I liked Pierre on his TSN broadcasts and at draft day, but hated him during games. The yelling aspect is why. It does turn the viewer off.
Speaking of him having babies, does he still want to have Rick Nash's babies? When he was on TSN his man crush on Nash in particular was just nauseating. He's still 1 trillion times better than Healy though.
I don't hate him, but his insistence on referring to every player by what team they played on in juniors or by what school they went to is annoying. Every time someone scores a goal or makes a great play, he'll bust out something like "OH I BET BRUCE MCTAVISH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN IDAHO IS GRINNING EAR TO EAR RIGHT NOW! HE'S THE ASSISTANT EQUIPMENT MANAGER THERE AND WOULD LOVE THE MOVE O'REILLY JUST PULLED ON HILLER!"
