The bigger problem is how they sound....it sounds like three guys yelling at each other and making a big deal out of every play. You don't wanna be too laid back as a commentator but you don't need to sound like that....gives the viewer a headache and it really turns you off from the game.
The more I think about, this is exactly the problem with NBC broadcasts.

Too much yelling. By everyone.

Put Strader on the mic, Pierre in between the benches, and Kevin Weekes in the studio. Problem solved.

It always astounded me how I liked Pierre on his TSN broadcasts and at draft day, but hated him during games. The yelling aspect is why. It does turn the viewer off.

I would rather see Eddie go instead of Pierre. The man gets mad at every single play.

"FOR ALL YOU YOUNG HOCKEY PLAYERS OUT THERE (insert rant)"

Get rid of Glen Healy and Ray Ferarro while you're at it

Pierre McGuire sounds refreshing.

Glenn Healy is infinitely worse.

I wish he was in studio instead

His yelling, calling certain players by their first full name, where they played as kids and his "have fun" at the end of interviews...

Besides, he lets me know which players I should be squealing over. So there's that.

I really like Pierre, actually. I love it when something amazing happens and he laughs and squeals like a schoolgirl. It just shows he loves the game, imo.

Not a fan at all. He's really creepy.

Wasn't very well liked as a coach either, apparently. Lol.

Mcguire's Tenure A Bad Situation
Inside the Whalers
May 21, 1994|By Jeff Jacobs; Courant columnist

With one brush of his newly recovered powers Thursday, general manager Paul Holmgren did more to unify the Whalers than anybody in recent team history.

Holmgren fired coach Pierre McGuire after six months.

It was more than a great idea.

It was justice.

Put him in the studio. At least then I can change the channel and not miss hockey. There are way too many horrible guys like Milbury, Pierre, Doc, etc.

I didn't know they even had newspaper articles from 1994 on the internet! That's impressive that you found this. I have never heard this about Mcguire before. Just a baby at the time.

Speaking of him having babies, does he still want to have Rick Nash's babies? When he was on TSN his man crush on Nash in particular was just nauseating. He's still 1 trillion times better than Healy though.

I think people put wayyyyy too much stock into the announcers and analysts. I hardly pay attention to them when im watching a game.

This.

Have you guys watched televised sports without the commentary. It's great!

They need to have an option to turn commentary off.

I don't hate him, but his insistence on referring to every player by what team they played on in juniors or by what school they went to is annoying. Every time someone scores a goal or makes a great play, he'll bust out something like "OH I BET BRUCE MCTAVISH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN IDAHO IS GRINNING EAR TO EAR RIGHT NOW! HE'S THE ASSISTANT EQUIPMENT MANAGER THERE AND WOULD LOVE THE MOVE O'REILLY JUST PULLED ON HILLER!"
