Hawks & Individual Award Finalist Snubs- Historically Unprecedented?

Not saying they deserve better (well Kane & Toews deserve better...) but consider:

Jennings Trophy... but no Vezina finalist.
Fewest Goals Allowed-in-League... but no Norris finalist.
Two prime-time forwards for a Presidents Trophy Team, (one of which is a top-5 scoring winger on a second line), but no Lindsay/Hart finalist.

Maybe Saad gets the Calder as a "make up call." Likely Toews is in the Selke picture, too.

O.K.: Q's an obvious Adams finalist- but is the biggest reason for this team's success that they've been coached up?

I want someone to lead an 'MVP' chant next time Kane has success at home...

It's unfortunate, but look at it this way:

Crawford & Emery - the time split killed both. CC wasn't gonna see a lot of votes only playing 62.5% of games. I think 75% is a generally accepted minimum for that.

Norris - is Keith really Norris worthy? Hammer? Hammer was the better of the 2, but I don't see him getting a lot of votes for whatever reason.

Hart/Lindsay - very likely a vote split between Kane & Toews. So that cost both of them.

As much as I love our team and players, I don't think any of them got screwed out of a nomination.

I don't think anyone got screwed out of an award. I think Saad was lucky to be a finalist.

Every player in the Western Conference got screwed on the Hart.

Big time east coast bias with those nominations.

PHWA President Kevin Allen of USA Today said a record 178 PHWA members cast ballots, with 46.4 percent coming from East cities, 32.8 percent from West and 20.8 percent being international chapter members.
That would make the most sense about the nominees. I'm confident there is a similar disparity in written media as well in favor of the EC. I wouldn't be surprised if the international voters favored the EC.

That big silver thing that gets awarded at the end of the season is the only award they should care about.

right, the 4 best players in the NHL are all playing in the east...

Norris trophy goes to great Defensiv guys like Letang and Subban who can do anything other than defending.

trophy nominations

No player deserved to be a finalist for any of the trophies.

If they were taking the top five instead of the top three in each category we would have several.

Unfortunately for Kane & Toews they fall in between slots 4-7th best in the league. They had very solid years, but not Hart type of years. If anything it can make them realize they are not in the category of Ovechkin, Malkin, Crosby or Stamkos.

So if they are not in that group they better realize they are not 8m a year players. Kane & Toews are worth their contracts, but if they are not in the finalists for the Hart trophy discussion then they don't deserve raises.

Kane had a better season than Tavares, by a good margin.

That gives him a case for the Lindsey, but by definition, does not make him a better Hart candidate. Tavares was more valuable to his team, they're not in the playoffs without him.

Yeah, that's because the Hawks are a much better team than the Islanders.

The best player on a low-seeded team doesn't win the Hart every year. People always fail to look at Hart voting at a relative level. The 8th place team is a lot closer to missing the playoffs than a 1st place team. Because of that, it is ridiculous to use "X wouldn't have made the playoffs without Y" as reasoning for who deserves the Hart.

Take away a Toews or Kane from the Hawks and they fall in the standings significantly. Take away Tavares from the Islanders and they also fall significantly. That's the justification people should be looking at.

Obviously if you take the best player off a fringe playoff team, they're not going to be in the playoffs anymore. The same isn't true for the best player on the best team in the NHL, but it's utterly silly to use that as a knock against that player. It doesn't make any sense.

I think Toews or Kane should be there instead of Tavares. Neither of them should win it, but they were more valuable than Tavares this year. Better and more valuable.

Crosby or Ovechkin will win it.

If the Islanders don't have Matt Moulson or Mark Streit, they probably don't make the playoffs either. Maybe they should win the Hart, too.

Lets wait until we actually see the voting results before commenting.

For all we know, Toews or Kane could have been fourth in Hart voting and missed out by 2 points..
