Danny Kristo Connundrum

With the college season winding down the habs have a potentially large decision to make with Danny Kristo.

They can sign him to a current or future deal that starts next season.

If they sign him to a current deal they can assign him to Hamilton and call him up if needed for a playoff run.

If they sign him to a future deal they can sign him to Hamilton for the rest of their season, but that's it.

Given his age he is going to sign a 2 year deal which will expire in 2014 or 2015 depending on which they choose.

IMO if North Dakota has an early exit from the playoffs I would sign him to a current deal, have him play the end of the season in Hamilton then call him up for whatever is left of the NHL year. He could end up being useful like Kreider was for the Rangers last year.

I don't believe it's choosing whether it will be a current or future deal. It just comes down to whether we play him in 1 NHL game this year or not. If we do, then that would be year 1 of his deal and it will expire in 2014. If we don't, the deal starts next year.

I really hope we sign him, he's in my opinion the best prospect we have down in the minors. I have him over Leblanc it's not even close and it's been that way since they've been drafted.

They will sign him. It's just a matter if they give him a current or a future deal.

The Blues signed Yannick Veilleux to a future contract. He cannot play this year.

He's a CHL player though, that's the difference.

No urgency (and no room) to bring him into Montreal this year.

Agreed. We already did that with Galchenyuk.

We have to sign Kristo though. Must.

There is no difference, the club has the choice.

If you remember Frattin, he signed a current deal and played the last game of the season with Toronto. He could have signed a future, but he wanted money right away.

I agree, I think I'm 60/40 in this corner. But, management would kick themselves if he goes down to Hamilton, lights it up and they need him in the playoffs.

Who else read the title and thought " Damn, someone else posting about the 'loophole' and how Danny Kristo is going to take it"?

As long as you sign him.
Apparently, he's developed Mike Gartner speed and should fit in quite well with our current system

Yeah... We have defensive depth.. but that already has been chewed up.

For offensive depth in a cup run. He would be good. Because once Bourque is back White is the odd man out. Seeing as they refuse to scratch Armstrong. So white really is our only depth Offensive player.. And Maybe Dumont... But they are all 4th line players... LeBlanc is flailing... So Kristo would be a good depth player for the playoff's.. one that could play line 3 or 2.

Actually yes, all signed contracts before March 1st have to start for the current season, if it is signed after, it can start for the current season or the next season.

Stella is my favourite.

Hoegaarden & Hacker-Pschorr are pretty awesome too.

Carlsberg Red is a beaut but impossible to find unless you want a keg.

Anyhow, it is a pretty big deal. Do they take the risk of losing a full year on his contract on the chance that he is ready to contribute now, it's no different then Galchenyuk.

He could also wait and become a free agent in August. That would suck for us.

Thought so. Thanks.

Or are you saying I am wrong? Can go either way now that I think of it. Hmmm.

Nope, the loophole was available only last summer, now he can either sign with us or retire.
