Lance/Neil/Colby Armstrong- the WHY thread

So, as far as I know he was brought to add to the physicality of the team and maybe scrap every now and then. I know he's a "heart" guy and is claimed to be a good locker-room guy. I think he pretty much failed this year and brought nothing to the table. He hasn't fought once when needed a good wake up call to the guys and wasn't physical at all. Also, pretty funny the guy has had about 20 fights in his career, and got dominated in all 20 of them, hasn't even tied once.
What do you think ? I don't think he fits the role he was brought for.

He was brought in because he's one of Therrien's love children.

Gone. Call the Blues about Reaves or Columbus about Boll.

It was a cheap gamble. I didn't mind the signing. He was actually playing well before he got injured.

I thought he played well in the playoffs for the role he got.

I dont mind him back next year, but I highly doubt.

He did come within an inch of tying the game at 2 last night. I thought he had some great shifts in the playoffs, and no attitude when he's the 13th forward. His skating is weaker than I thought it would be, probably from the injuries past couple of years. Still, I kind of like watching an enthusiastic player who grew up a Habs fan get to suit up for the team but if we can go Prust - White - Torres on the fourth line next year, sign me up.

Awards:
It was a 1 year, $1 million contract...hard to complain too much about it. I thought he'd bring more offense and more grit, but now he's basically a guy you can put out there to forecheck and kill penalties and not hurt your team. In that regard, he was fine. I'd like to try for an upgrade next year, but I'm not going to cry about having him this year.

Good guy but didn't fight, didn't hit, didn't score this year - his roster spot should
have been used on a prospect.

What's worse is Blunden.

Started off slow and finished strong, unfortunate that snipe couldn't go in last night.

I'm indifferent as to whether he's back.

I don't know... I don't think he was as bad as you guys say he was. Also a great locker room guy.

I thought he was fine, solid PKer and positioning all around. Not all 4th liners have to run around hitting people and fighting, some are smart checkers, cover other team's stars and get a cycle going.

Armstrong-Halpern is actually a very solid 4th line you can put out on important defensive assignments I wish they were on the ice in game 4 instead of Ryder and DD.

I think the OP had disillusioned expectations concerning Armstrong. Never was a fighter, ever. Never was an overly physical grinder, ever. He's a 4th line guy who can bring some grit, a good attitude and some good defensive coverage. We basically got exactly that, and for 1 million, can't complain. I wouldn't mind him coming in as a 13th forward but would rather see a more physical guy

He definitely wasn't brought in to be a scrapper, not sure where you're imagining that.

I wouldn't mind replacing him with a tougher player, but IMHO he was decent at his role.

He was, yeah. Looked far more engaged in the play after a sluggish start, started moving his feet more, was very good on the forecheck.

A real crying shame he couldn't have potentially salvaged our season last night.

I was 100% sure he scored, got up and was about to go nuts and then I saw the play continue.

We all went nuts in my section. Hands over head and all. It was crushingly close.
