He's the second best player on the best third line in hockey. What would you call him?

Stalberg is going to get 3.5 per from somebody this summer. Why do you suppose that is?

Is it the word elite you take umbrage with? He's far from the prototype, but having him on your third line is a definite luxury.

Stalberg and Bickell would both be 2nd liners on a lot of teams. Of course Stalberg is an elite 3rd line player. That 3rd line is a big reason the Hawks are so good this year.

Cause some GM's like to waste money?

I mean Scottie Upshall got 3.5M , Joel Ward got 3M

Just because some GM's don't spend there money well doesn't make Stalberg some elite talent

It's impossible to even begin to talk about Stalberg objectively with you.

As a depth scorer, yes, VS is absolutely among the league's best.

I know goals against CBUS don't count, but what about goals for?

Stalberg and Bickell's 23 points would put them among forwards

5th on the Wings
6th on the Rangers
6th on the Pens
4th on the Sens
6th on the Bruins
6th on the Kings
5th on the Sharks

And that is getting 3rd line minutes.

They also get blessed going against weaker matchups since other teams are throwing there best guys defensively at Toews line and Kane line

What does Q want to sweep every team? Hawks won in 5, Stalberg helped set up an OT winner and was good on the forecheck many times,

Which is why the rest of the league has such players on its third line.

You dont bench Stalberg.

This is ********. The Hawks had been dominant all year and beat a stingy Defence in minny in 5 games.

Stalbergs speed can be a lot for Detroit to handle, I really dislike this, I watched 3 games in Detroit and Stalberg was always first to a puck and causing havoc, very noticable.

Stalberg at his contract is a luxury, at his contract, despite his stats* many hawks players have played poor the last 3 years.

I think Stal would do well against Detroit. But for some reason Q just doesn't like the guy. And we have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.

Safe to say he won't be back next year.

Stalberg has 1 goal and 2 assists in 4 games against the Wings this year. Oddly enough, the game he didn't score in was the 7-1 game.

Stalberg's speed would be more noticeable against the Wings, but his mistakes would be more glaring and more costly as well. It's a double-edged sword with Stalberg. You hope the good outweighs the bad, but the bad's still there and it can rear it's ugly head at the worst moments.

I'm not trying to say he's terrible or anything, but of all Chicago's top-9 forwards, can you think of one that turns the puck over - or makes as many bad decisions with the puck - as Stalberg? And when he's not scoring, that's all you really notice. Yes, he can still be effective on the forecheck. Yes, he's been more physical this year. But the poor decisions still need to be cut down on. Whether it's trying to do too much, or trying to carry the puck through 2-3 guys instead of chipping it in, or putting the puck in bad spots in the defensive zone.. Stalberg simply needs to be better and smarter, especially in a depth role, that Detroit will most certainly look to exploit.
