OT: Mystery Puck Night?

Hey all, pretty new here...

How many of you have been to a Mystery Puck Night at HP? I was just reading about the event on the Sharks site and it seems like it would be fun to try my hand at some pucks. For $20, its not so bad for a chance at a big name signed puck of Joe, Patty or Nabby.

For those that have gone and bought them, who did you get? When did you line up? How does the event work exactly? They don't give too many details on the site.

Any info appreciated, thanks!

Semenov and Staubitz sign 90% of them.

Yeah, on the site it says something to the effect that each player signed an equal amount of pucks. I assumed that was rather dubious, but in any case there is a risk of getting a lesser player/s.

I am going to a few games this next week, including one of the Puck Nights. I figure I'll try my hand at maybe 2 or 3 pucks. As long as I get a decent one (hopefully they will all be decent), I'll be happy with it.

Doors open 75 minutes before game. They're usually sold out 45-60 minutes before game. Sometimes the players' wives/girlfriends are doing the selling.

I've gotten a few different ones over the years.

Pucks are signed on the "front" and a label with players' name/# is on the back (just in case you can't recognize the autograph).

Pucks are wrapped in such a way that you cannot see the name.

You pick and only then can you unwrap and know who you got.

Cash or credit cards accepted.

Check sharksfoundation.org for more info.

(There's a sale coming up on Thursday and Saturday: "first day of spring")

I was just kidding (thought that was obvious). I see no reason not to believe that they all sign the same number of pucks.

I've only been to one of them but the one I bought was Marcel Goc. Ended up trading it for a Vlasic. There are usually a few people hanging around the tables willing to trade because they get duplicates from prior mystery puck days. So if you don't like who you get, chances are you can trade it off to someone else. Not to say you will get any more desirable of a player. Some of the autos are hard to read though if the ink isn't strong enough.

also, each time they do it there are a few pucks that are marked as "winner" and you get an extra prize.

I got a winner last season, and won a white premier jersey signed by Patty

I didn't take it literally, but I figured they don't all sign the same number of pucks for whatever reason. It's not that I necessarily doubt they do.

Should be fun any way, I'm going to the Thursday game.

Thanks all.

I got one on opening night and it ended up being Thornton ... went nicely with Thornton jersey and hat I was wearing that night.

The only way to assure you get a puck is to lineup outside the doors when they open 75 minutes before the game.

You're going Thursday, if you're not there when the doors open at 6:15, there's a decent chance you won't get one.

Unless you can't get off work to get to practice, and/or want to donate to/support Sharks' Foundation.

last year I got a winner puck that got me a Thornton signed jersey. That was the best i've done. That being said, I've gotten pucks signed by anyone from patty, joe, nabby, pavs, boyle.... down to kaspar, semenov, etc.

It's a risk, but so what, it's going to a good cause and I get the tax write off.

The guy I buy hockey cards from got two Scott Parker pucks a few years ago. He got the first one, was pissed so he got another puck. Lo and behold, Parker again! I got a laugh outta that.

I've gotten Pavelski, Marleau, and Vlasic mystery pucks. The only complaint I have is that they dress the puck up in the festive/holiday that it's around. I'd like to see just simple Sharks puck autographed instead.

I'm addicted to them. Black Armor Night nearly broke my addiction though. I currently have:

Setoguchi (Mardi Gras 09)
Joslin (Chinese New Year 09)
Goc (Chinese New Year 09)
Clowe (Xmas 08)
Ehrhoff (Black Armor Night 08)
Semenov (Black Armor Night 08)
Mitchell (Election Day 08)
Thornton (Opening Night 08)
Lukowich (Opening Night 08)
McLaren (St. Pats 08)
Shelley (St. Pats 08)
Murray (Valentines 08)
Cheechoo (Valentines 08)
Bernier (Xmas 07)
Michalek (Xmas 07)

I haven't done the math until now on how much I spent on pucks. It goes to a good cause though.

Two years of mystery pucks and I've gotten Davison, Brown, and Bernier. Not too impressive for $60 but still fun.

Man oh man mystery pucks are fun. Basically you need to get to HP somewhat near opening time (I think HP opens 1:15 prior to opening faceoff, so 6:15 for a typical 7:30 game). Then just hit up the mystery puck booths on the concourse and hand them $20, and pick out a puck.

You can use CC but you have to fill out a form since they don't have a machine for it. Better to bring cash.

Usually my wife and I get the short end of the stick as over the years prior to this we have Mark Bell, Mark Smith, Milan Michalek, etc.

Opening night we decided to do one each. I pulled Vlasic...the misses pulled Thornton (and from this thread, seems like all the opening night Thornton pucks went to hfboards people or related persons). but I was also jealous.

It's funny you say that because whenever I go always see some hardcore collector types who get 4 (!) mystery pucks at a time for themselves. To the person who asked "why not go to a practice and get an auto?," those players don't like to sign pucks for those collector types, many of whom are looking to flip them on ebay.

This way those d-bags are forced to at least contribute to charity and then they can try to hawk their stuff on ebay.

They do the mystery pucks here in Worcester too...it's $10 and almost all the pucks are WorSharks players, although there are "winners" like you all have and a handful of NHL players are thrown in.

I bought two last season...I got Tom Cavanagh on one and Evgeni Nabokov on the other.

A buddy bought three last season and got Joe Thornton, and one of his others was a "winner" where he got a WorSharks signed goalie stick.

I bought two last year, got a Marleau and a winner puck (signed by Matt Carle). Carle did me good though, that winner puck netted me a Thornton autographed away jersey.
