Ryan Miller at the draft

I am not sure he wants to stick around for a rebuild said he plans on meeting with Darcy at some point. Given the direction Buffalo is going I think they try and trade him. First and prospect enough and I understand what Pomminville got but my belief is easier to get more at deadline.

His istuation is much more complicated. Its only one position on a team---not 3.

I think there is a decent market out there in the offseason for Miller as a pure rental player. the issue is his signability long term.

buffalo doesnt resign him beause of his age and their rebuilding. At his age he want a run at the cup.

What I think will happen is he will be open to any team out there but purely as a one year rental. H would prefer a team with a legit shot at the cup.

After 13/14 he will become a UFA and want to be closer to where his wife is and play.

the teams out there know he is a special goalie who would be in many top 5 rankings. Teams even with a good goalie still see him as an upgrade at that position.

the reason GMs would do it----if they feel this is the missing piece to a cup run (chicago, st louis) they will take a shot at acquiring him because winning a cup means job security for GMs and coaches.

The only real place for him to go is Calgary or Toronto.

Tampa is banking on young unproven goalies and Florida has Markstrom.

I don't think the Sabres are going to trade him Toronto so that leaves a very small market for him.

Why would the Flames want a soon to be 33 year old goaltender in a rebuild?

Wait for one of the top playoff teams to lose because of poor goaltending. That is where the market will come from.

St. Louis, Chicago and Washington may be also.... though there isn't as big of a need there.

I'd gladly take him in STL.

Your not getting 3-4 assets for 33 yr old goalie with large cap hit who is a UFA in 2014

Sure you will. Not saying they will all be blue chips and 1sts, but someone will pay that IMO. Especially if there is a team by the draft that geeks goaltending may have cost them in the playoffs.

My gut says, as stated in another thread, something came close with buffalo and Washington that may conclude at the draft

If he plays well next season, he could get an Iggy type return at the deadline.

Not many teams will want to fit that cap hit into their team next year, other than a non-contender perhaps.

He;s more likely a deadline guy.

I'm sure someone's goalie will crap the bed in the playoffs. Miller will look much better then, especially since the other big goalie on the market is Luongo and his albatross contract.

As a Hab fan, I think Miller is a terrific goalie and worth a big return. Just trade him out of the east Buffalo

I think Regier is smart enough that if he trades Miller (or Vanek for that matter), he will be willing to keep part of their salary in order to facilitate a deal or make the player look more appealing.

Without any real blue-chip free agents this season (sorry Nathan Horton, you're a really nice player, but I wouldn't break the bank for ya) they'll have cap room and if they trade Miller or Vanek, keeping part of that salary will be enticing... Getting either player would be nice for any team, but it'd be even more appealing to a budget team like the Islanders, Jets, Coyotes, etc. if Buffalo were to say (we want this, this, and this, and we'll give you Miller, or Vanek, but we'll keep $3M of his salary for this year). Having a guy like that and only paying $3M for him for the year is like getting to spend an extra $3M for that season on free agents.

Someones goaltending will blow ---Chicago???

dont forget injuries could happen during the season....

Buffalo has an even greater incentive to run the goalie

The only teams I do not see as potential trade partners for Miller are (assuming no injuries):

Montreal
Boston
Rangers
Pittsburgh
Carolina

Nashville
Minnesota
Vancouver (only if Lu is kept---if he is dealt or released then Vancouver is in play)
Winnipeg

Depending how the Isles do this year (make playoffs) and how much they feel they can go further next year, Miller could and should be an option (especially if Nabokov is leaving)
