Montreal/Vancouver

To Vancouver:
-Andrei Markov
-David Desharnais
-Morgan Ellis
-MTL 3rd round pick 2013

To Montreal:
-Zach Kassian
-Keith Ballard
-Alexandre Grenier
-VAN 2nd round pick 2013

Why Vancouver does it: Last shot at the cup. DD would be a great 3rd line centre and can play 2nd line if Kesler is hurt. Markov is a veteran puck mover that will improve the powerplay. Ellis improves the prospect pool of defense.

Why Montreal does it: Sheds salary. Gives Galchenyuk and Diaz larger roles and a chance to shine without DD and Markov. Kassian is a big winger than they desperately need. Ballard can be a good bottom pairing guy(Vancouver had to get rid of cap). Grenier is a long term project. 6"5 winger from Laval. Improve from 3rd to 2nd round pick.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Daniel Sedin - Henrik Sedin - Alex Burrows
David Booth - Ryan Kesler - Chris Higgins
Mason Raymond - David Desharnais - Jannik Hansen
Dale Weiss - Manny Malhotra - Maxim Lapierre

Alexander Edler - Kevin Bieksa
Dan Hamhuis - Jason Garrison
Andrei Markov - Frank Corrado

Corey Schneider
Roberto Luongo
--------------------------------------------------

Max Pacioretty - Tomas Plekanec - Brian Gionta
Rene Bourque - Lars Eller - Brendan Gallagher
Brandon Prust - Alex Galchenyuk - Zach Kassian
Travis Moen - Jeff Halpern - Ryan White

Josh Gorges - PK Subban
Alexi Emelin - Raphael Diaz
Keith Ballard - Jarred Tinordi

Carey Price
Peter Budaj

Thoughts? Who adds?

Vancouver doesn't have their 2013 2nd rounder.

I don't think it's worth losing Kassian in this deal because this new roster is still not a serious cup contender. Value is pretty good though.

No from Montreal.

Ballard is going to be a Amnesty buy out this coming offseason. We could get him a lot less if you want a hitting dman.

Kassian is a good piece but not at the price of both Markov and Desharnais IMO.

I like Kassian's tools that he has. Just opens more holes in the roster of the Habs if you ask me.

We don't have a 2nd in 2013.

It looks like overpayment from Montreal. But capwise we can't do it anyways. And we can't trade Kassian now. It would be an admission of failure.

Huge no from Vancouver, I wouldn't trade Kassian alone for for that, we gave up Cody Hodgson for Zack Kassian were not going to trade him for that, we need a big top 6 power forward with a mean side to his game, Kassian also really picked up his game in the playoffs I think he's really about to breakout.

Im not expecting Montreal to be a contender for a few years. Kassian is exactly what we need. Markov has 1 year left. He will likely walk or be resigned for too much. I wouldnt mind trading him. DD... I dont even know what to say.

Ballard is overpaid but not bad. HF just hates him. Servicable defenseman.

No from Vancouver. I like Ellis, but have no interest in Desharnais or Markov.

On second thought, I retract that about Markov. He is too slow for our system. The cap hit also makes it impossible. We have absolutely no interest in Desharnais and as Vankiller said, adding Kassian is conceding failure, unless it was for a young player with similar upside, say Eller.

If the Habs want Kassian, the Nucks want Eller. That's about where it lies.

I didn't say it wasn't fair value, with Markov in there that adds a lot but the point is Kassian means a lot to the Canucks we need him, we need more players similar to him, skilled big body's who hit and have a meanness to them. We can't afford to trade Kassian and add in that we just traded for him and gave up Hodgson who looks to be a #1 Center in the nhl now, it would look really bad for the Canucks. Kassian is simply just not available giving OUR team needs and the price we just paid for Kassian just over a year ago. Also lets add in Canucks prospect pool is pretty weak and we just can trade a top 6 young player for more young D man, we have Tanev and Corrado, our biggest need is young scorers who do we have? Kassian is the only one who is NHL ready Schroeder is possibly there and maybe Jensen, with us picking late in the 1st round the last bit has really hurt our prospect pool. I haven't even began to tell you about the new division the Canucks are stepping into with some big teams like LA, Yotes, Ducks.

As much as I like Markov the Canucks do not have the cap space or the room on the blueline for him. Edler, Hamhuis, Garrison, Bieksa, Tanev, Corrado, Alberts, Ballard..... They are stocked with defensemen.

I also wouldn't move Kassian at all since, as someone else mentioned, he looks primed for a breakout after the playoffs. His skating and effort really picked up with the games intensity and he flashed some extreme skill. He's definitely a playoff player and I think he gains consistency as his conditioning improves over the years. If his skating/conditioning improves as it should then he's the perfect player for the Sedins.

Desharnais doesn't do much for us. We could just use Schroeder(looked decent for many games with the Nucks this year and really took off points-wise in the AHL after being sent down) as a cheap fix if we are willing to have a diminutive 3rd line center.

Now, if you guys were to move Plekanec (I highly doubt it) I would be all over that.

Burrows - Plekanec - Kesler
Hamhuis - Garrison/Bieksa

Teams would cry in frustration trying to score against those lines.

Also Desharnais is a midget and we have no room for under sized players, Canucks are already a softer team he's the last player on the Habs we'd want. I would love Gallagher or PK but I'm sure those guys are just as untouchable as Kassian or Kesler is on the Canucks.
