Joe Colborne -- chances of making the 2013-2014 team?

Man did this guy step up tonight. Didn't even think he was playing until right before the game, but he was a force tonight. Getting the puck out of the zone, hitting everything in sight, loved his play.

I definitely wrote him off too soon. When healthy, this kid has looked pretty good.

I don't know if he'll ever be a #1C, but he's got the makings of a solid 3rd line C, maybe 2nd liner. As he uses his body more and gets stronger, I expect him to be a beast at protecting the puck and cycling.

Maybe try him instead of Grabo if Bozak is healthy tomorrow? Although Grabo has looked pretty good despite his +/- stats.

Truth.

He pretty much played as good as you could possibly expect for a rookie with barely any NHL exp and tossed into the fire at the last minute of pre-game skate. Which probably made it easier on him to be honest. No time to think. Quality depth player for us tonight. He may have just found his niche.

I think we are seeing our top 3 C's for next year with a glimspe of tonight's game. Colborne is ready, I have been saying this for months now, it was only a matter of time, and he will get even better the more mins he gets. This I can say without reservation, he just needed time.

Bozak, Kadri, and Joe C next year. Mcclement a valuable #4C, it's all taking shape. We know who the odd man is out.

People really overlooked the fact that he was playing hurt last year and the early part of this year.

Ever since he's been healthy he's been great.

bergeron embarrassed him on the dot though.

all in one, played a safe defensive game, can't ask for more from a rookie.

I'm very pleased with his progress. I was expecting him to need another year of development, at least, but he may be ready to step up to the big league starting next season. He had a real solid game tonight.

Faceoffs are overrated. Winning the faceoff isn't important, it's what you do AFTER the faceoff, win or lose, i.e the Leafs can win the faceoff with a minute to go in their own zone but the win doesn't matter if a Bruin gets there first and chips it back to his D off the boards.

That would be a faceoff lost in my book.

I didn't look at the face-off stats but he never hurt us in the face-off circle from what I can recall, infact face-offs are one of Joe's strengths. He will improve this in time also.

He was great in the AHL and was fantastic tonight. Maybe having Eakins in appearance made some of the guys try harder for him. They would go to the moon and back for him.

So pumped for tommorow .... and win or lose THIS series has been HUGE for us and we will reap the benefits of it for years:

- Kessel got the bruins monkey off his back
- Reimer proving all the doubters wrong
- Gardiner bounces back from his sophmore slump
- Phanuef bounces back from his OT mistake to help take this to 7
- JVR with another impressive playoff performance
- PK is still looking good
- Winning the coaching battle
etc etc

Such an exciting time for us leaf fans!!!!!!!

Best hockey game I've ever seen Joe play.

He can hit! Who woulda thought...

Great game kid. Aside from the one turnover at center ice he played damn near perfect for his first playoff game.

I can't recall who called him a bust here at 23, well I do, but really all players develop at different times. Joe needed more time, he's a big kid whose skating has come miles from a year ago, credit Underhill, he still needs a few more lbs to fill out his lanky frame, but he has Ice Q, good vision, sees the defensive zone well, and more than anything he wants to get better. Character, when a first rd pick has tools and character you bet on them. I never was down on Joe, for those that knew he had played hurt last year and since he was traded to us. He's healthy now, and it is starting to look like he is going to be a factor for us moving fwd.

Great first playoff game for Colborne. Man, did I really doubt him before because of his lack of intensity and drive but tonight he was definitely solid in all 3 zones.

I wouldn't say that they are overrated but you can have different options, wingers come in and play the weak side etc.

Most face off " winners " are due to linemates that come into the circle after contact and kick it back to the D men etc.

I'd love to see big Joe score the winner against his former team - maybe tomorrow?
