Where is Jame?

Jame, I have watched Josi this whole WC after our argument about his upside last month. You were right...not sure if he will continue to pan out moving forward, but he has been the best D man in this tournament as far as I am concerned. Doubt Nashville moves him.

Craig Smith and Josi have had pretty impressive WCs for Nashville

Nashville will totally trade a young stud defensemen for 1 year of vanek ... they'll probably give us their 4th overall pick too

To be fair, I think Doak and Der Jaeger were talking up Vanek for Josi first.

It's amazing how some of these second round d-men develop.

I suggested Vanek and 8 for Josi and 4, or something along those lines. Maybe I had Ekholm for Josi. I know that you and I had a proposal centered around Vanek and Josi. We should be tarred and feathered.

no. 40 points in an average year isn't worth that hit no matter how all-around the game

How long of a contract are you thinking?

He is a good secondary player (2nd winger/3rd line center) thats very versatile. Not sure what kind of offense he would bring to the table without Zetterberg though.

Yup and honestly the 1st tier guys quite frequently are a bad investment. Who here would want Brad Richards signed until he's 40 at over a 6 million dollar cap hit? I'd hope most of us have learned our lesson from the Leino signing though. I'm pretty sure Regier has.I think Filpulla is the better player, but if i'm Regier i'm sure as all hell not giving him the type of money Pominville made.

To be fair, I think the Islanders would be the best fir for Vanek, an up and coming team, moving to a new arena, a lot of youth starting to realize their potential and a chance at contention. Also from buffalo's POV the Isles have a lot of solid prospects in their system and would speed up our rebuilding process:
Vanek(50% salary)
for
Nino+2013 1st
OR
Lee+2013 1st+Grabner

Strome instead of Nino would make me happier.

Or add a 2nd round pick from NY. Half of Vanek's salary alone is worth at least a 2nd rounder.

Other thought: DR will try work hardest to send Vanek and Miller out west.

The thought of vanek playing with JT should at least make the isles consider dealing for him

Why would the Isles consider all those years of control for Strome for one known year of Miller and Vanek? It's not how Snow operates AT ALL.

Maybe they want to win a 1st round series within the next 20 years. Strome is no guarantee to help the Isles get into the 2nd round. Vanek is.

Stop. Vanek hasn't been to the 2nd round of the playoffs since 2007. That goes beyond just him, but acquiring Vanek is a guarantor of nothing.

It says here that based on how they just played, the Isles would have defeated any team in the east besides Pittsburgh this year.

They're a budget team who have shown no willingness to make this sort of move. They're going to continue to build from within and bide their time until they are in their new building and start the taps on some new revenue streams. Years of control and real money are huge to the Isles.

Try standing in the other team's shoes.

Not with the way Nabokov tended goal they wouldn't have.

Stop. All I said was Vanek was would help the CURRENT Isles teams progress. Ryan Strome is still a prospect while Vanek is an elite goal scorer. There is NO guarantee Strome will ever produce like Vanek has. And btw, last time I checked Thomas Vanek has 7 playoff goals in 10 games going back to his last two series. He is single handily put us in position to beat Philly in 2011 and before he got cheap shotted Vanek had the Sabres in the driver seat against the Bruins. The Isles haven't won a series since 1993. But I guess if you just want to amass "top" prospects and never progress then by all means don't acquire an elite goal scorer who will be coveted by nearly every team. 2007 has nothing to do with Vanek, he is the only one who DID show up in our two playoffs since the co caps left.

I keep hearing one year left one year left yet several players who were impending UFAS got large returns (and many at the deadline with only a handful of regular season games + the playoffs to go) Thomas Vanek would be acquired with a full regular and playoff season and also be acquired at a possible salary/cap hit of ~4 million. Vanek will easily return an elite prospect. Ill bet anyone here anything they want he returns more then Pominville does.
