It's intra-division quarter finals this year.

Pretty stupid if you ask me.

Semis? We win this game AND the QF against Slovakia, we play Sweden or Canada in the semis.

It is good, we are more are more likely win those two in semis than in Finals..

But it doesn't really matter because we will haveto beat USA / Slovaks first.

And, in the case we lose this game, we play USA in the QF and the either SUI or CZE in the semis if we get that far.

5-1.

The maximum goals Latvia can get when Raanta is in goal should be 2 if our players are willing to defend today.

Latvia doesn't have as much to gain from this game compared to Finland and they played yesterday so too many factors speak for an easy win for Finland when SVK-USA ended the way it did.

I think the new lines of Finland will work well.

I'm going to guess the game goes to overtime/shootout, where Granlund scores to give Finland the group win. He will be hailed as a savior and a saint, and everything is just as it used to be.

Sorta sad there is the 'subgroup' rule in the tiebreaking category of the IIHF ruleset. Without it Finns could possibly have had three options as to whom to face in the first round of playoffs. Now there are just two.

Case I - Finland wins over Latvia - in any manner. Finns end up winning (H1) the Group H and then face Slovakia (H4) in QF

Case II - Finland loses to Latvia in regulation. Finns remain seated at 3rd position (H3) of Group H and would then face 2nd of the Group H. Namely USA, given that since Russia & USA ended up tied in points the game between the teams sets their order (and Russia won that).

Case III - Finland loses to Latvia in overtime or in shootout. Now Finland, USA and Russia would all be even in points, all games between them have gone 'even' - i.e. all have 1 win and 1 loss in the games between the teams. Goal difference in the games between the tied teams would be: FIN -2, RUS +1, USA +1. Which would set Finns to H3 spot and let the RUS-USA game determine the rankings of the other teams (i.e. RUS - H1 and USA - H2). Then Finns would face USA. So essentially the same as Case II.

We don't win as often as Sweden, so maybe I'd rather lose.

There is no way Finland would lose on purpose in front of the home audience. There is a good flow in the team and I believe Latvia will get destroyed tonight. Finland would really prefer facing Slovakia over yankees.

I'm thinking this will happen.

And then he vanishes for the rest of the games left.

That is definitely not in the rulebook.

Of course I have hoped for 10 years that they could, but it has never been implemented.
