Totally. Let's get some more John Erskines to "clear" the crease.

Has there been a G3 LesPaul sighting? I hope he is doing okay. Before the game he said he might do something stupid were we to lose.

Trade Green due to he has high value again. He played better than most Caps this post season so he should entertain draft day offers. I don't see how you trade Backstrom with the C position being so hard to replace, unless you get another center who is younger and cheaper.

That's the thing. Each of the last 4 years, the offense has been the problem in the playoffs, not the defense. We need more offense IMO. Not alot more, but more.

I don't see how you can trade green. He's too valuable if he sustains his play. You don't trade that good of a Dman.

WTF happened tonight?? I had family issues, could not watch the game. Although at 5-0, I guess it's rhetorical.

Not sure what to fall back at this point. OK, we could have Erat and Laich at full strength. Players like MP and Fehr played pretty well. But then we still have McPhee and a woefully underperforming top line. So.. back to puncher's chance and I guess waiting for some excitement when Kuz comes over.

The one positive is, as Caps fans, this is nothing we can't handle

Forsberg, Eakin, and a 2nd round pick for a 1st round embarrassment.

The defense won't be improved, they'll go with their limited internal options for 2C, and the big add on the wings will be Tom Wilson.

Ted Leonsis: happy with mediocrity.

I can't pick on Big John much because he is a bottom pairing defenseman, not top four.

He'll be back. He looked like he was hurt. He still looked like he was trying. Not worried about him.

Well Green was our best player for much of the series, he wasn't part of the problem. And Nicky... I mean, how could we possibly replace him? I'm holding out hope that he was injured.

Green and Backstrom for... Kesler and Hamhuis. In a second.

Be glad you had family matters because the Caps didn't show up at all. The first period was fine until Asham scored. Ovechkin laid out McD and Wilson showed he is going to be a gamer. Other than that, same old stuff from years past.

I assume Ribs and Schultz will be gone.

I assume Erskine and Nicky were hurt.

Other than that, meh.

Maybe Green and Asante Samuel too - guys with a reputation for flashy play, but not much effort towards playing defense.

My dad is a transplant from Philly and he became a Washington sports fan in everything but football, so I ended up the same way. Watching my two favorite teams rapidly ascend to the tops of their respective sports, and collapse just as rapidly, has been quite the experience. It's really weird to watch the same thing happen in two different sports. On the plus side, I think it's helped me become jaded like a long time Caps or Eagles fan in a far shorter time, such that I no longer really feel anything when my teams get eliminated.
Well, I'm an Orioles fan so...

If that's how it plays out they'll be sub-mediocre and miss the playoffs.

so depressing

where do we go from here?
i dont know.

Im hoping that Oates and Co will be able to dissect the series and come up with reasons why we were unable to generate goals but essentially it comes down Washington being utterly utterly unlucky in every sense of the word, AGAIN.

Like who? Carlson and Green are the only guys on our blueline who are reliable puck carriers, and Green was our second or third best defenseman defensively anyway.

Tip of the hat for the summary, short and to the point.

F it, this organization has issues, but the fans have become pretty much indestructible.

Here's to better competition next year helping either the team to toughen up or for changes to be made.
