Do we really want to pay Raffi Torres 1.75M to not score and be suspended half the season?

While I don't necessarily disagree, I don't think anyone would have their heads down playing a team icing Cooke and Torres. At the very least the Canes would be a much more difficult team to play against.

Well, we are paying Ruutu $4.75M and Pitkanen $4.5M only to have them injured half the season.

I would take Torres on this team in a flat minute. Instantly makes us a team you have to play hard.

True that. Ever since Walker retired we haven't had a real pain in the ass to play against in the bottom six. Adding a Torres or a Cooke would do wonders for this team.

Little chance Minnesota doesn't match any offer sheet that isn't in the range of silly.

Clutterbuck is the ideal grinder, he'd make every team in the NHL better.

Torres plays a hard/mean game but he's not like a Rinaldo or what Cooke used to be, he doesn't go out there to goon it up and slash people's wrists and stuff. He gets suspended for body checks, and while the Hossa hit was bad the other two were borderline. If most any other players makes that hit on Stoll it wouldn't be an issue and probably the same for the one on the Oilers' kid a couple years ago.

There's so much a double standard with guys like him anymore. A career third-liner is never going to get the benefit of the doubt but guys like Malkin and Ovechkin can throw all the elbows they want because they score a lot of points. It's so stupid.

I wouldn't mind picking up Rob Klinkhammer as a UFA. Younger at 25, big, hits hard and often (65 hits in 22 games last year), has scored at ppg pace in AHL so some offensive upside, and cheap as a 3rd/4th liner.

Edit: scratch that, just unofficially re-signed with Phoenix 2 days ago.

Minny has cap issues to keep in mind. Clutterbuck is a 3/4th liner on that team. He could be had I bet. You're right he'd make any team better, lets be that team. They need d, and we can start by throwing Wisconsin dman mcbain at them. Add as needed. Who knows?

Would love to have Clutterbuck but doubt he's available. You're right about the cap issues. I wonder if Colton Gillies needs work. I always liked his game. Matt Martin from the Isles would be a nice addition.

Martin is less likely to move than clutterbuck IMO. He's been a top role player, affordable, they have no cap issues and are building up. Clutterbuck might get priced out, not so much with Martin. Gillies isn't a bad idea, but seems like a step down.

Clutterbuck is an rfa this offseason. Cap issues.

I would need a new pair of pants if Clutterbuck signed here. Mcbain actually has a higher salary than Clutterbuck though so a trade like that might not work, they'd have to let him walk and we'd have to woo him.

Count me in there. Cooke's going to be 35 next year, Torres 32. Clutterbuck? 26.

Would be nice to have a top pest/grinder on the right side of 30 if we're going after one. We'll probably have to pay him better then LaRose money but he's one of the few guys like that in the league that's actually worth it.

Not entirely sure Minny goes for it though, not with Spurgeon (RFA) and Backstrom (UFA) needing to be signed, I think they'll be thinking draft pick for Clutterbuck.

See I think if this team is anywhere near "win mode," adding a couple guys on the wrong side of 30 wouldn't be such a bad idea. Maybe you wait and see how things turn out and go for somebody like Torres at the deadline. This team has precious few players that fit the "veteran gritty playoff leader" mold.

Don't get me wrong, not saying I'd disagree with a Torres signing, especially on a one or two year deal. But between signing Torres or acquiring Clutterbuck, Clutterbuck is my pick.

Cooke's right out to me, but I've thought the guy was a POS after seeing his antics once he was gone from Vancouver.

Well he makes slightly less than mcbain and is about to be an rfa. Just to qualify him likely makes him more than mcbain, and he probably will sign for more. Mcbain will keep them in the same range, and be getting a guy who will possibly be playing a higher role.

Dave, if you're right then we trade mcbain maybe for a pick as well. Cal wont require a first and I don't mind anything else for him. Mcbain brings back at least a third IMO.

I honestly see McBain ending up on a team in need of an offensive dman that has a bunch of salary they need to shed. Something like McBain for Coburn with Philly sounds about right, even though they're going to be our division rivals next year. Or maybe McBain for Ballard with Vancouver adding.

Won't say I'd be disappointed moving him for a pick though.

Id like to keep the Canes 2nd this year. Lots of 1st round talent still there in the 30-40 range.

My favorites are Madison Bowie and Steve Stantini. But there are also a few biggins on D in Mirco Mueller (6'3", 190) Samuel Morin (6'8", 200+ lbs). Add into those Ian McCoshen, Robert Hagg, Chris Bigras, and Keaton Thompson and there are a lot of potential top-4 D available.

Also intrigued by Marko Dano, he was a monster in the U-20 WJC, looked on par with likes of Huberdeau, and has held his own in the World Championships. As far as I can tell he is the only Draft Eligible player playing.

For the reasons I listed above, moving McBain or McBain+ for an additional 2nd round pick would be great.

Slovenian goalie is too, Gracnar, but that one goes back to what I said about this years goalie class from Europe. Not sure how much I would trust drafting a 5'10 goalie unless he's still there in the 6th when it's basically "**** it, how bad could this turn out for us?"

But yeah, if we could land another 2nd for McBain or McBain+ that would be great.

I think we can only dream that Drouin is available at #5. In theory we'd have the best top 6 in the league. Assuming Pittsburgh is unable to keep Iginla and/or Dupuis.
