I see it now, the complainers will say city should have just paid 30$ per square feet to move somewhere else just so katz doesn't get it.

Lets face it, Katz is a business man first and knows his bottom line. He's just shifting risk around like mentioned in the article.

No I dont think so. But one Alderman was against the deal since he thought the city should just put up their own building. In the long run they would definitely save money once they paid off the mortgage so to speak.

No, the doubters will be wondering how a sq ft lease rate is a done guaranteed deal on a tower not yet completely designed, with financing details still to be arranged, and with nothing close to a shovel in ground.

Its nice that we have these statements saying city will save 160M on this or this is the lease rate etc.

I'll believe some more of it once its even close to happening.

Until then all we have is projections.

Outside of it being a 40k stadium prices wouldn't go down anyways.

Well that's the whole idea.

Nothing about this arena design speaks cheap seats.

Most of the city is luxury seating be it lower bowl, loges, club seating etc.

This is a much different building and seating layout then that represented by Rexall. Theres no nosebleed seating tier here. Theres not going to be much in the way of cheap seat seating.

At least 12K seats in this building will be high priced tickets.

I'll continue to estimate the lowest single game ticket price including surcharges will be around 100bucks.

People are loving the arena plans. I wonder how many really question how much more you have to dig deep to get into the new arena.

The extra bucks are well worth it provided I don't have to jostle a tide of humanity to visit the facilities during intermission..to go along with all the other not-so-subtle "quirks" concerning Rexall.

The development permit for the tower was submitted a few months back, so design & approval is well underway. It's supposed to be open late 2016 or so (if I'm remembering the article correctly), so you'll likely see movement on this site shortly (a few months).

Exactly, I'll glad pay more for better access to the amenities. When I go to Rexall I don't leave my seat until the game is over, it's just too crazy to try to get around anywhere.

God forbid you ever need to use the washroom.

That's strange I don't find the crowd bad at all. For me the absolute number one issue is the size of the seats. They're way too small for me and I'm not even fat or overly tall.

I'm tubby and overly tall! I don't even buy tickets unless I can sit first row or one of the gold seats with walking room infront / an isle. Hate sticking my knees beside peoples ears.

I'm 5'7" and I can't fit in the new blue seats in the gold/silver section. Seems a little weird considering how many people quite a bit taller than me go to games.

Have you ever been to a game in Montreal in the last decade? Talk about tight.

Have you been to a game in the Bell Centre? It's insane how steep the stairs are. Apropos to your comment because it has the biggest capacity in the league. Rogers Place will be fine. An extra thousand seats would only make the rink a crappier place to watch games and wouldn't lower the prices.

The city got an outstanding deal on its new office tower according to a local commercial realty expert.

The city announced Thursday it had contracted with the Katz Group and WAM to move most of its staff into a new 27-storey tower to be built at 104th Street and 101 Avenue.
They are putting a new office tower on Jasper Ave?

Metro is such a pos little newspaper they can't even fact check the address of the new office tower. 104th Avenue and 101 Street, i.e. right where the Baccarat casino is makes far more sense for the location of a new office tower.

It's going to be where the old Staples was...which is not on Jasper Ave.

I find that if you don't lolly gag getting to the bathroom and re-loading on beers can easily be done within an intermission at Rexall no matter where you're sitting. For an old rink I don't think it's that bad in this respect. The Saddledome on the other hand has about three washrooms in the entire rink.

I'm 6'5" and I am constantly about a milameter away from kneeing the person in front of me in the head. So I'm with you guys on the bigger seats!

Shorter bathroom lines would also be a preference

If I had to guess something like a final budgeted price....

Or that it is on budget so far?

Hardly press conference worthy though.

Unless the arena has 18,641 private bathrooms, prepare to jostle.

Not even Katz tower leasing was a sticking point at this stage.

Right now its go ahead, don't look back.
