Actually, I have some friends in Leduc who have been working on materials for the arena district for about 3 months now.

Well...I know the Grant McEwan downtown campus came in on time and under budget without years of haggling and wrangling and threats.

Except that isn't nearly as high profile, isn't a public-private split, and nobody profits on the project.

Apples and oranges.

Katz got the job done.

I don't really care if his tactics in doing so ruffled some feathers. If you want make an omlette you might have to break some eggs. I knew from the beginning especially with the way Edmonton's city council is that this was always going to get a little ugly.

EIG wouldn't have been able to get this done and Pocklington sure as hell didn't. Katz has secured the Oilers future in Edmonton for the next 20+ years and that's the bottom line.

If only the Oilers hockey management were as competent in getting their job done.

Guaranteed maximum price means guaranteed MAXIMUM price. I've been involved in projects with GMP and you can count on it. If there are change orders, that's another matter.

He's not part of the hockey management. Lowe/Mac T/Howson are responsible for managing the hockey team and are responsible for the product on the ice.

And Katz was the one who put Lowe into his position, and has the power to remove him.

Does anybody know if I buy standing room season tickets for the Oilers next season if Ill have priority at getting season tickets when the new rink is built?

Before I get ahead of myself, can I buy standing room season tickets for next season, or is there a waiting list 10 years long

I don't think there is much of a wait for standing room. My buddy was able to get them a couple off seasons ago. The bigger question is why? It's painful to spend an entire game standing. The walk up to those standing room sections is ridiculous. If you can sneak down into some seats so be it.

Ding ding ding.

Thanks for making my point. The Metro article gave an address on Jasper Ave (because there is no 101 Ave in Edmonton and Jasper is between 100th and 102nd avenues.) An editor should have caught that, because it's probably kinda important to get the location correct in a story about the location of a big building project.

I actually dont mind watching hockey standing, its not ideal but a couple rexall beers in and you dont notice, plus alot of friends have tickets so can go see them.

The bigger reason I would get standing room season tickets next year at Rexall is so I would be on the priority list to get season tickets for the new arena. Maybe they let all season ticket holders (including standing room) get first dibs on Rogers place season tickets, and I could grab some actual seats

Id also be fine if I was able to get standing room season tickets for the new arena and scoop up better seats when they become available. I think season tickets for the new arena will be very hard to come by

From what I'd gathered from the conference, Katz does not own the arena. The city own the vast majority of the arena. Katz will get massive spin-offs from it but that's to be expected. This is about a s fare of a deal Edmonton could have gotten, and I'm very happy with the outcome.

Cannot be more excited for 2016!

I still think it looks like some kind of weird spaceship.

I'm just saying that because its true, plus that I don't want to disappoint.

Also, I like the way the cattle, er I mean human loading dock is situated..

You'll all be freaked when this starts playing..

jk aside I think this is another build that will look stupid and WTF were they thinking in a dozen years. Kind of like all the Gehry type backlash going on now. All of which was extremely predictable.

Won't be 10 years before people start calling this a tin omelette or something. For all the talk of street level interaction and people interaction this design looks horrible in that regard. Buildings like this create walls, divisions, and canyons in urban environments. Wheres the street level interaction? Oh, must've forgot about that.
