I think most of us felt raffi could lay a dirty one at any point and get the hook, and we'd have had to say, well okay that's the risk. But this is ********.
The hit was explosive and there was an injury on the play. The player has a history. The league has to look at it. Now I don't know why Torres can't just use skype or something

Michalek was the only clear headshot. Even Hossa's last year wasn't a total headshot.

But yeah, let's take it out of the game....
Oh ********... You ever notice how few fights there are in the playoffs

No it doesn't. I don't mind fighting but it really doesn't prevent anything.

I agree. The only problem I had with the Hossa hit is that he jumped.

Sutter in his simplicity makes a pretty strong case. Stoll gets hit and didn't return in the third and I am not resting him. A hearing is warranted in this case. I don't see why Torres has to be there in person...

My teal glasses can't make me feel any empathy for Torres who has no one to blame but himself or Doug Wilson who had to have anticipated the possibility.
Sorry but No he didn't. It's completely debatable if he even hit his head. His head moving looks like whiplash. Could be torres back hitting his head but that is not for sure.

Stuart hit Landeskog and he didn't return. No hearing. They're only having a hearing because his name is Torres.

Any way to the leagues prospective: How many players is Torres going to injure in the playoffs? What is it going to be? 1 a year? God forbid he ever plays in the east. The suits probably shutter to think of that...

Their patience with Torres is clearly non existent.

And Stuart hasn't injured multiple players in the playoffs. Especially cash cows like Hossa

Firstly, it was a legal hit at the time, so not a cheap shot. Secondly, the play wasn't dead, and Michalek had the puck...he has to know that he is liable to get hit. He wasn't hit from behind or even from the side (and I am ok with hits from the side).

Plus, yeah, Michalek was out for the remainder of that series. But he's back on feet now.
******** even the commentator who wasn't a sharks fan calls it cheap. The only point of contact was the head. It was a cheap shot. It's not even in question.

So what do you propose?

Eliminate fighting and call every ticky-tac penalty?

Actually bringing up Stuart is actually is useful. You can play physical without being a concussion dealer.

Suspend Torres on a dirty hit. Don't suspend him on a clean hit just because his name is Torres and a player got injured.
Kronwall injures a ton of people every season. By your logic, should they suspend him too?

No tolerance policy in the CHL and all other Canadian junior leagues would do a lot. It would certainly elimate the glorified rodeo clowns from the draft pool; although enforcers appear to be a dieing breed. In the NHL the consequences for fighting should either be the same as baseball or expanded to ten minutes with instigator actually called regularly.

its a contact sport...you expect anyone to let up because someone is a "big money" player? If anything the stars can elbow and cheap shot (imcluding ours) but foot soldiers like Torres pay the price for their transgressions. Ovechkin blew out Gonchar's knee, broke Campbell's collarbone on reckless dirty hits and he was let off the hook. Malkin too.

Not to mention that seriously dirtbag board in this year's game 7, so glad he didn't move on for that hit alone.

Its not fair to compare to Kronwall with Torres. The league is going to have trouble tolerating a guy who can't play in the playoffs without giving someone a concussion. Kronwall can do that. Now he might separate a few shoulders along the way

I honestly don't care about fighting. Its going to happen but it doesn't deter anyone. Kaleta, Ott, Cooke etc have all been tuned up and guess what? They still play the same. Cooke was threatened where it really hurt and cleaned up his game..the wallet.

Yeah but hockey has this serious concussion issue... Ralph Nader has actually gotten involved. The examples you have mentioned aren't illegal hits to the head. Also it isn't fair to compare Ovechkin and Malkin to Torres

I'm sure he has dealt a few but not like Torres has and I can't think of one in the playoffs

That was probably the dirtiest hit of the playoffs. Charging? Check. Left his feet? Check. From behind? Check. He smashed McD's head into the dasher.
