Gorges + Diaz from MTL

Montreal needs to address their size on defense. The model of most successful playoff teams has been two elite puck moving defensemen and four bigger defensemen who can crash and bang, clear the crease and make a decent first pass.

Montreal's two elite puck movers are Subban and Markov. Beaulieu is waiting in the wings when Markov retires.
We already have Tinordi and Emelin.
Say we call up Pateryn.

What is the value of Gorges (top 4 shutdown guy) and Diaz (top 4 puck moving guy) in a package for an upgrade? Someone with size and net clearing ability. Playoff hockey!

As a fellow habs fan I support this position I was thinking someone like coburn would that work for you?

No team would take both of them, better chance of moving Gorges for a decent prospect and a pick and Diaz for a pick then go from there.

Gorges is the heart and soul of our defence why trading him !! Diaz is expendable but gorges come on he's a beast .... He bloc shot like no one else , he always give is 100% ! Gorges will only get better he's only 28 year old , so for the next 4-5 year he will be in is prime !! If we trade him we need something solid in return

I don't think that you get better with time when you're a shot blocker. You actually decline from blocking so many pucks. We're not talking about a cerebral player who's playing smart...

I agree but the only thing I'm saying is that with age u get smarter so u uselly get smarter in the way u bloc shot and in the way u play ! 28 is still young and most of the dman are in there prime between 27-33 ... Gill was still efficient until 36 , look at Murray he's 33 and still play good and block big shot , same for volchenkov even do he didn't had a good season he's still one of the best shot blocker in the league at 31 etc .... Gorges is only getting better , im pretty sure he will still be one of the best shut down dman in the league for the next years to come but your right is style of play will hurt him but not now maybe in 5 years but not now he's still young !! It my opinion , only time will tell us if I'm wrong or right lolll

whoever we would pick up would have to be right handed, cause every dman on this team is a Left d

How about something centered around Bieksa in Vancouver

isnt Gorges a BC boy

Nvm defense.. we got plenty of young prospects coming up. Tinordi and Emelin will fill the heavy duty roles. Subban can prob also do the same he is pretty solid and strong 2 way defensemen. Markov gets replaced by either Diaz or Beaulieu. Dietz, Thrower, Ellis and Nygren coming up.. stop worrying about defense.. our biggest need in the future is Toughness, Grit and Physical wingers. players like Hartnell, D.Brown, Downie, Neil ect..
which we will only be able to get by drafting players like that. until then we go for the
UFA's to help us for that need. Clowe, Bickell, Torres, Penner.

Would like to get Gorges to Tampa, but we can only offer offense. Do we have anything you are interested in?

I think the Leblanc part of the deal would have to be significantly upgraded to get TB to listen.

No our 3rd only moves for a young top pairing D, so this is not gonna happen.
A little smaller trade maybe?
