i'm trying to follow the logic of this thread and the AK discussion : how would you guys feel about bringing back Zednik? he's 6'1'' therefore he's a big hitting power forward right??

Kostitsyn was attacked by a hockey rink board in his youth, he's been afraid to go anywhere near one eversince.

I'm speechless. I can't take anyone seriously who would replace Gio with AK.

AK is a spare part who's not even playing in the NHL. Forget it. Its hopeless. AK is the greatest player who's ever played for the CH. you win, hockey loses.

don't get the hate for AK...

yes, he never lived up to his full potential. he still did put up 210pts/379 games for us (.45 pts/82 games), and this in a period where we had a pretty dismal offensive group every year except one.

he was also a pretty consistent playoff performer (within his own inconsistent self).

as long as he was signed to a 1-year deal at a very reasonable price (2M$ or less), I'd welcome him back.

He had some decent chemistry with Eller and with Pleks, and we could use an offensively talented top-9 winger even if he's going to be a 15-16min player used mostly in offensive situations (basically a cheaper, less effective, Ryder).

Bourque - Pleks - Gionta
MaxPac - DD - Gallagher
Galch - Eller - AKost
Prust - White - Moen

Eller or Pleks can double up in between Prust/Moen as needed for defensive emphasis depending on situational needs

if we're standing pat on the trade front (not dangling any of our top 2 round picks), I'd prefer that then most of what's potentially available/realistic on the UFA market.

we've still got the possibility that one of Leblanc/Bournival/Kristo/Holland will have a great summer and come to camp ready to push for a roster spot as well.

This.

He's pretty much a cheaper and more physical Ryder.

A Kostitsyn-Eller-Galchenyuk/Gallagher 2nd line next year wouldn't be all that bad.

Dan Girardi and Ryan Callahan are UFAs next summer.

I would go very hard for both, especially Girardi. *drool*

I wouldn't mind having AK back for one year at a low price, but he doesn't fit with our team's character motto. AK to me can be a guy that starts becoming more consistent and plays well, but it's a BIG IF for me. The guy had all the talent to be a 30+ goal scorer and never did. Also has a big body, never used it as much as he should have. But the guy had talent. He's a mix between AK27 and Ryder. Ryder disappeared down the stretch and into the playoffs (for the most part). AK46 has good hands (not as good as Kovalev), a great shot, a frame that he could use to be more physical. All we need from him is the effort.

Who do you bump down on the depth chart for Girardi?

Trade Gionta and sign Callahan to Gionta money (5-5.5mil per year) and i'm a happy man.

But i'm in dreamland.

I'd love to have him, but he's a risk. Players like that tend to get worse with age because all they do is take beatings. Look at Volchenkov.

One under the radar guy I would look at is Matt Corrente from the Devils.

Former late 1st round pick, not overly big (6'0, 210) right handed shot d-man that plays with edge.

Gionta will be UFA next summer(2014).

Callahan is a good player but his 5-5.5 mil cap hit would end up like Gionta's down the road...people would complain about his age, size and cap hit.

It's not like Bourque or Gionta are going to get more then 20 goals next year. I'm sure they'll be good reasons (or excuses) why this doesn't happen but who cares, really?

It's not any worst than the people who suggest bringing back Kovalev every year... Now I disagree 100% with the people who suggested that Kostitsyn can replace Gionta, it makes no sense on so many levels. But I'm in favor of letting go of Ryder if it means bringing another player like Kostitsyn in. He's in his prime right now, he has known chemistry with Eller and Plekanec so he's not a question mark like Stalberg/Bickell. We're not getting Clowe or Clarkson people, stop dreaming. The Brian Burkes of this world will overpay like he did with Armstrong back in the day (but much worse this time around).

And who cares how many seasons of 50 pts he has compared to Ryder? Ryder didn't deliver the merchandise in the playoffs and didn't even show up to see the media when the team cleared their stuff, talk about a great presence in the locker room The way this team is built is with scoring coming from everyone. Our strenght is our depth not our first line. Bringing a guy like Kostitsyn doesn't hurt us offensively as much as some people would think. The way Therrien uses his lines and his PP, Ryder wouldn't get 30 goals here, more like 25.

Kostitsyn can play the exact same way that Bourque played this year, plus having a coach that actually talks to his players can only do good for a player like him. It's a low risk/high reward type of deal. He sucks then he goes back to the KHL, he does good and gives us solid secondary scoring plus awesome chemistry with Eller and Galchenyuk, resign him for 2-3 years.

When they're here, we can't wait to get rid of them. When they're gone, we can't wait to bring them back.

Coming soon to an HF Habs board near you: "Should we bring back Desharnais?"
