Antti Miettienen

I'm not sure I spelled his name right, but there it is. I'm sure you know who I am talking about.

I had a question about his physical side. I have heard he is known for his open ice hitting? How good is it? How strong is he along the boards?

Basically I am asking if you think he would make a good 4th liner for the Dallas Stars? Because thats about the only spot Dallas has open, 4th line LW.

I'd like to see him used on at least the third line, but with the players we have currently I just don't see how that would be possible.

with his strong two-way play I can't see any reason why he couldn't make it on the third line with Lehtonen and Kapanen, if he makes the team that is.

If Miettinen makes the NHL he will most likely see time on the third line with Kapanen and Lehtonen because he is not really suited for fourth line duty and would then be better suited for playing big minutes in the A.

Dallas can decide themself which LW spot is open due to them having very versatile players.

He could, but he has some tough competition.

Mike Modano, Brenden Morrow, Stu Barnes, Steve Ott and Manny Malhotra are the Stars left wingers, and only Ott and Malhotra are realistic shots to compete with, and both are already competing for a 4th line job, and they actually suit the role too. Miettinen should make the Stars playing 3rd line left wing, or not at all..

Personally I'd prefer a lineup like this:

Modano - Arnott - Guerin
Morrow - Turgeon - Young
Miettinen - Kapanen - Lehtinen
Ott - Barnes - Rob DiMaio or DiMaio - Malhotra - Barnes or Ott - Barnes - Downey many options here...

If Miettinen makes the team it creates a few 'problems'. Stu Barnes or Brendan Morrow will have to move to the 4th line to make room for Miettinen on the third.

Barnes would make a good center for a defensive 4th line. Morrow is the kind of presence you want on the ice more. He is not going to play 4th line.

While the concept of a "Finnish Line" with Miettenin, Kapanen, and Lehtinen is nice, it may not be practicle. Miettenin will probably have to play the 4th line some if he makes the team.

I was just asking if he was the type of player that could play the 4th line or 3rd line.

Personally I think it would probably be in both Dallas' and Miettenin's best interest for him to play in Utah for a season. Unless Morrow clicks on the second or first line, or you move Lehtinen to the first or second line.

The question you have to ask is: Will moving Barnes to the 4th line and Morrow to the second affect Turgeon's output. Because he seems to click with Barnes. If Morrow and Turgeon can't find that, then its probably not going to be worth it in the long run.
