I wouldn't take Subban over Pietro or OEL.

Doughty is not better than Ryan Suter. Come to think of it, Suter is better than half the guys on that list

Pretty much this, OEL is closing the gap really fast.

Seriously though both guys are legit top 5 Dmen right now.

Better than Weber, Suter, Subban, Chara, Doughty & Karlsson. Nope. They're in a slightly lower tier with Letang. Def not top 5 but they'll be up there sooner rather than later.

If anything, guys like Suter, Weber, and Karlsson are in their own tier and everyone else is on the second tier. I'd usually put Chara up there but I think it's evident he's declining slightly (perhaps not a franchise defenseman anymore but still a very good #1).

I'd put OEL and Petriangelo over Subban and Letang personally (second tier). OEL might be the best skating defenseman in the world right now.

How can you put the Norris runner-up(most likely) lower those 2. Subban's advanced stats often even show that he's had a better year than Suter defensivly (check the old Norris thread on the main board). OEL & Piets are great, but no way they're currently better than Subban. Subban also has a better ppg in the playoffs (iirc) than those guys with the majority of those games being played as a rookie with no reg season experience going against Crosby and Ovechkin. The following year, he neutralized David Krejci, who then went on to lead the Bruins and the NHL in playoffs points after that series. Subban is better than both by a fair margin.

If anything, Subban's metrics show he hasn't faced the toughest competition defensively (QoC). Whether that is relevant to the Norris or not is debatable, it's pretty much evolved into the "best offensive" defenseman award. So I don't think there's any doubt Subban will be competitive for it. Purely based on value and worth, I would wager that the majority of neutral fans would prefer Petriangelo and OEL over Subban, myself included. Subban is a great player and a legitimate #1 d-man, but the former are franchise-caliber defenseman. Simply put, there's more to being a great defenseman than excelling on the PP. Not to take anything away from Subban, he's excellent in his own right and legitimately, a top 10 d-man.

As for Letang, I also think he's in the same tier as guys like Subban, OEL, and Petriangelo. He's just lower on the list than the latter.

i love how subban can have great half season.. now he's top 5.. give me a break. OEL and Petro are basically the same guy.. one is left handed, the other is right.

I forgot doughty and Suter, yes they're both top 5. I wouldn't take Subban over OEL or pie either but Subban is certainly currently better.

Umm what? Subban deserves the Norris this year, of course he's earned top 5 status, I'm a HUGE fan of both OEL and Pie, I absolutely love them both and they're they're future Norris winners. At the same time I don't care for Subban, but what he's done this year is far greater than anything pie or OEL has done. Don't be silly.

OEL would be an ideal EJ partner
