It was posted in one of the other threads. I think in one of the Sakic threads.

FWIW, Dater did a chat last night and he said he doesn't think the Avs will be hiring a full time goalie coach. He didn't elaborate, he just said no three or four different times when asked. He could have some inside info or maybe he's just guessing.

It would be a big mistake to go with this part time goalie consultant crap again. Clearly Varly needs all the help he can get right now and we should have someone available for our goalie prospects as well.

Oh I missed that. Mods should maybe move/remove this one then?

Maybe but I don't mind the separate thread to discuss this. We might need this thread for all the *****ing and complaining we'll do if they hire a part time coach again.

Hopefully this means they want to hire a full-time coach. Varly needs it.

With Varly, Pickard, Aittokallio, Patterson and Millan, they need a full-time coach that can help them all out.

Yeah, I'm gonna keep this one separate for now, because

A) It's the offseason, and thus far only a small handful of threads have gotten traffic, and one of them, the World Championship thread, will be done soon

B) I'd like to keep this separate from the All Purpose Head Coach thread

Given that a goalie coach would be brought in under the new head coach and staff, whoever they are, I highly doubt Dater has any kind of clue in this case.

I would think they'd bring in someone if Joe's smart. The new staff will have a lot of say (most likely).

This organization always blasts to everyone that the goalie is the most important position on the ice, and then they fail to address it correctly with a full time coach.

What sort of coaching limits does the NHL have, i.e. number of coaches, responsibilities, etc.

If we want to return to being a quality, competitive organization, support staff is a big part of that. I'm glad to see Mclean gone and hopefully we'll see a full time coach brought in now.

Why would Joe keep a guy on staff who he consistently murdered during his playing career. Makes sense now hire a damn goalie coach to help your young tenders out.

How you perform as a player says nothing about how you'll perform as a teacher.

Guys it's Giguere.
He got a raise for next year which probably means the extra dough is for being the goalie coach.
He retires at the end of the year (probably) and becomes a full time goalie-coach.
Sakic has it covered.

I don't think that would be enough. Roy has to coach the team full time. Varly, and most all goaltenders need/want a guy to work with them personally full time. Roy would have too much on his plate to have that kind of relationship with Varly.

Patrick Roy would likely make a horrible goalie coach too.

Not sure it would happend either , that was just a IF . But hey, the Avs have been acting weird with the Goalie coachs situation in the past .It wouldnt surprise me if Roy as a HC would share the task of Goalie coach with idk , Billington.

Well ok that makes no sence , i should go to bed

What's Francois Allaire up to these days? Strong ties to both Roy and Giguere. The Goalie Guild said it would be a "home run" for the Avs if they could get him.

can't see a coach like Roy willing to half ass the goalie coach situation.
i really don't understand why you invest so much in Varly and then don't give him all the tools to succeed.

No idea, pretty much haven't heard a word about him since he left the Leafs in September of last year. Good shout if he'd be interested.

I'd rather have Roy as a goalie coach, bring in JM, Boucher or Ruff to be a head coach and then groom Roy to become its successor.

Allaire is a legend, but I'd be a bit worried if he was brought in. All the talk about him being let go was that it was because he was trying to force every goalie to play his butterlfy style. Instead of teaching what was best for each guy, and this was just not working for them. There's just too many goalies out there now that play a hybrid style like Brodeur or Smith, or a more agile style, or just something that isn't pure butterfly.

Nonis all but said this recently in an interview I heard, when talking about the success of their new guy, and that he worked with each guy to improve their individual style, instead of forcing them to play one way.

Allaire's methods may be a bit outdated. Then again, maybe not. Varly's an agile reaction goalie though, I wouldn't want to see Allaire come in and try and turn him into something else. It works for Varly, he just needs to stay mentally sharp, and have a guy to work with him to be as consistant as possible, and help him bounce back from bad games, and keep them from turning into big downswings.
