Edler 5+20 for knee on knee on Staal.

Discuss.

I am a huge Edler fan, one of my favourite players. But that was as dirty as they come. How was he mad after that penalty? That was a blatant knee that he had no intentions of trying to avoid.

Edler skated in a straight line right into the knee of Staal. 5 and game was the correct call. Reckless play.

Unlucky ending, Not a dirty player at all, No way did he intend to do that, Still reckless and dirty.

I suspect at least 2 game suspension

Staal shouldn't have extended his leg.

I think this is one of those plays where whether it was intentional or not will be determined based on your bias towards the players involved.

It could easily be perceived either way.

Poor Staal. He was in agony.

It was a knee and the penalty was correct.

Intentional? No way. Don't really know what he intended though since he didn't avoid it but had the chance. Was gonna make a hit, Staal moved, Edler got indecisive and had a brainfreeze?

Calm down.

Edler isn't a dirty player. It's a reckless play but it's not deliberate by any means.

Looks like he was going for the hit and didn't react well to Staal's move. Bad play by Edler.

Edler always seems to make sneaky big hits and skates away like nothing happened and never seems to get mixed up in stuff after the whistle. It's a pretty good skill to have, but this time it went pretty bad.

The Knee doesn't hyper-extend, there's no ligament damage, just a bruise, IMO.

It's more of a reply to it being unintentional. It's not like Edler stuck his leg out, while Staal had his leg extended.

No but he still had ample time to avoid Staal altogether and didn't. For not being a dirty player this is about to be his second suspension in less than a year. When does the benefit of the doubt go out the window?

Hoping that's the case. Didn't look like there was a hyper-extension there like you usually see with an ACL/MCL injury. Still possible to have ligament damage without that though.

Reckless play by Edler there. Correct call on the ice, had to call it that way.
