Stastny + Downie or McGinn for Eberle

Seeing as both teams will not be in the same division anymore.

To Edmonton:

Paul Stastny
Steve Downie or Jamie McGinn

To Colorado:

Jordan Eberle

Please discuss.

Check Back in february since ROR can't be traded for 1 yr after Colorado agreed to the offer sheet.

First off learn how offer sheets work Colorado matched Calgary on Ryan O'Reilly In February so that means that O'Reilly can not be dealt until next February get the picture.

Hmm I don't know how much Colorado fans will like this. Downie is injury prone but if he can stay healthy for 82 games I think he's got 55-60 point upside. O'Rielly with similar. They're both guys that Edmonton could use though.

Downie being the second piece is way too much IMO. I'm not sure how much if anything I'd be willing to add to O'Reilly to be honest, disagree or not.

Obviously this can't be considered until pretty much the day of the trade deadline next season anyways.

(Edit, also EDM may well get their #2 center out of this draft if the right guy is available.)

No thanks.

EDIT: With Staz in there instead of ROR it is a lot closer. I'd consider it.

Honestly I'd say no as an Avs fan.

While Eberle would be the highest end player in the deal, with the highest offensive potential and the Avs do need more offense from the wings, especially in the top 6.

O'Reilly brings a different element to the team, and quite frankly I wouldn't move him at least until a Stastny extension is done. If O'Reilly is gone it gives Stastny more leverage, and if both were to leave it would leave the Avs rather week down the middle. O'Reilly defensive game is really important to the Avs team and him being there a whole year will hopefully see him get back to how he was playing before the lockout and for glimpses this season after the hold out. He's still going to be that 60+ point center while providing Selke caliber D too.

Throw Downie in there and the Avs are losing something that they sorely missed this year, grittiness from the forwards or more specifically the top 6/9. Downie fits a role on the team that they didn't have a replacement for after he went down at the start of this season.

It just doesn't seem like a good fit for the Avs. If O'Reilly were to be moved I'd rather see him moved for someone of similar age that could be paired with Erik Johnson. Potentially the top 6 winger that the Avs are missing, but they can't afford to move a top 6 winger with O'Reilly to bring in the winger that they're missing.

Eberle isn't a good fit for Colorado. I hear Duchene doesn't pass him the puck enough.

We can go McGinn if Downie is too valuable to the Avs.

Michael Del Zotto and Brady Skjei for Ryan O'Reilly and one of Ryan Wilson or Jan Hejda.

I'd do Stastny and McGinn for Eberle
Don't think Edmonton would do it though

Joe Sakic will hopefully give Ryan O'Reilly a long extension and not entertain any ideas of trading him. Avs need to hang on to the player types you need to have to be a winning team.

Do we need an Eberle thread? What is this, the 7th one this week?

Wow, I'd do Stazz+Ginner for Eberle in a heartbeat. Avs would toss in a late pick to even it out IMO.

I wouldn't trade Radar for Eberle straight up regardless of how much I like Ebs or how many goals he'd score next to Staz, Radar is just the perfect second center for a stud like Duchene, or for a winger like Lando.

Staz and McGinn I could understand although I honestly wouldn't be too happy with either, we'd have a great top two lines but absolutely craptastic bottom 6 and I think having that third line being led by a very good center helps us a lot more than loading up the top line some more. Especially with our D coming around and finally being able to handle the puck.

For the Oilers to consider this, it would have to be:

To Col:
Eberle

To Edm:
Stastny
McGinn
*stipulation that COL pays 1.6M of Stastny's salary

Trade like that makes Gagner instant trade bait for a forward, with a 50-60pt 2C with great 2-way ability established in the middle.

Hall RNH-____
McGinn-Stastny-Yakupov
MPS-Horcoff-______

Not a bad top-9. Lots of options with Hemsky and Gagner then usable as trade assets to acquire another top-6 RW and a defenseman.
