a number of surprising buy outs so far.

Tom Gilbert made a solid buck, but I would hope the Hawks look at him seriously if they don't want Rosival back or he wants too much $$$. Gilbert never recovered from early season health issues and would look good on our 3rd pairing depending on price.

feel bad for Nathan Gerbe. Kid has a heart of gold and a warrior, battled back from a horrible back injury to now getting released as well. Someone will pick this kid up and hopefully he can gain strength and confidence again to be that buzz saw he was just 2 years ago.

Anyone read the Canucks rebuilding thread on the main board? It's a hoot.

Seriously read it. Right now. And be entertained.

Where are all these big trades that were supposed to be happening? Guys like E. Kane, Ryan, Edler etc..

Just like last year, only one big draft day trade. Dont get me wrong, Schneider to is huge, but i was expecting some more movement.

It's a weird year, legendary UFA class but little cap space. I think we'll see a lot of movement later when teams realize how cheep these UFAs are.

It's always the same... much talk, nothing happens.

This isn't a legendary UFA class. There isn't even 1 player as good as Suter or Parise

Jarret Stoll suffered a seizure at his home and was rushed to the hospital. In the 2006-07 season, while an Oiler, he got a concussion and had a seizure after that. This seizure was potentially due to his most recent concussion that stemmed from the Raffi Torres hit that cost him the rest of the Kings/Sharks series. This is very scary. It's too early to jump to conclusions, but Stoll could be looking at retirement or could now be in danger from having one more concussion force him into it. I heard he's doing fine post-incident, but man, that is ridiculously scary.

I agree - unless there is some sort of big trade (and I doubt there will be on that day)...it will be boring.

On the upside, I'm using it as an excuse to justify working from home tomorrow

Look at how many good players are out there. Who cares about 1 or 2 superstars.

Nobody out there will be worth what they command as far as the better players go.

You will find a good bargain player that will surprise you, but that's about it.

Weiss, Filppula, Briere, etc will be disappointments for what they will sign for.

the trades can't happen if teams are up against the cap.

again this is the worst year for all these good buy outs and free agents....if this happened next season the moves would be pouring in by now as the cap jumps back up to afford some of these contracts.

Grabovski is on waivers...I didn't expect that to happen, even though he was overpaid. I thought they would give him a year to bounce back, but Carlyle isn't going anywhere, and he didn't seem to like him much. He had a down year, and Pirri is waiting in the wings, but I wonder if Stan is kicking the tires as a 2C option if he could get a short term contract for 3-3.5M.

His contract as-is is too big for the Hawks. I also doubt he signs here on a short term contract ... the truth is he is a very good player and doesn't deserve a lot of the criticism he gets. He will be able to get another good contract elsewhere - not for what he was making...but he will do better than short term for 3-3.5.

Grabovski is getting bought out

If he is open to a one year (Show em up) type deal then he is perfect for Hawks

Belanger done in Edmonton (unconditional waivers)

Potential #4C target. Stan has options if he wants to improve roster this summer

Huge trade in the works. Boston and Dallas close on a deal sending Tyler Seguin to Stars for Loui Eriksson. Other parts involved as well.

Don't understand why Boston is so intent on trading Seguin.

GM has been critical of his off ice work ethic , etc

Sometimes these GM"s forget some of these guys are only in late teens/early 20's and are going to act there age

As per Bob MacKenzie it's apparently a 5 player deal. Someone else has reported that Peverley is involved, too.

imo, they will regret it if they trade Seguin. I cannot believe how fast Boston is to give up young players...first Kessel now Seguin. Funny how Claude Julien is the constant.

Eriksson is only 27 and is one of the best all around players in NHL

Its not like they are trading for 2 years of a Lou... He is entering his prime years (he Is only 27)
