Jonathan Toews vs Henrik Sedin

Two captains of teams in the Western conference.

You got the young guy Toews. 372 pts in 408 games. 53 pts in 59 playoff games.

Provides leadership, size, strength, skating ability, excellent defensive awareness, playmaking ability and a good shot.

Has a cup and a Conn Smythe, and may win the Selke this year.

You got the savvy offensive player in Henrik. 646 points in 622 games since the lockout. 58 points in 68 playoff games since the lockout.

Provides elite playmaking ability, high hockey IQ, insane vision, point producing machine with impressive durability.

Has an Art Ross and Hart trophy.

Even offensively, Toews wins on defence.

If you're talking about today, Toews is a little better.

If you're doing a "who would you take for future" poll, then Toews wins by the length of West Edmonton Mall.

Sedin's been steadily declining, and no, I don't hate nor care for Vancouver but it's pretty obvious that its Toews now and moving forward. His winning pedigree doesn't hurt either.

Are we voting based on careers? I'm not sure why else you'd include career stats and accomplishments.

Career, Sedin easily.
Current, Toews easily.

I really wish users were more specific when making polls like this.

The Sedins aren't "in decline". There's more to hockey than point totals. They just had a fantastic regular season.

No, really.

Quote:
At the age of 32, most elite two-way players are guys who can still pick the top corner on the world’s best goaltenders, but can’t really carry a team and drive play against the toughest competition at even-strength anymore. The Sedins, somehow, are continuing to defy father time, and at 32 are having their stingiest year of defensive hockey. It’s actually kind of mind boggling, and certainly deserves our attention.

The Sedins are basically scoring slightly less than they did at their offensive peak a few years back, but they’ve more than made up for it by becoming absurdly stingy defensive players.

For the first time in their respective careers, the Sedin twins are battling the toughest matchups game in and game out. They’re also starting a lower percentage of their shifts in the offensive end of the rink than they have in three seasons.

All of that context aside, the twins are consistently turning play in the right direction. When the twins are on the ice, they’re in the offensive end with the puck. In fact they’re spending more time in their opponent’s end of the rink than they ever have previously. Basically the Sedin twins play defense in the offensive end, by being relentless on the puck, and pinning their opponents two-hundred feet away from Vancouver’s goal. As the old adage goes, “the best defense is a good offense,” and the Sedin twins have put that principle into practice this season.

Toews is probably still the pick here, but look at players' performance a little bit deeper than the back of a hockey card if you're looking for "trends" and "declining players".

It's Toews

no idea why this poll was made or if there was a specific thing the op wanted us to rank with these two to make it close.

Toews only because of age.

Sedin's career is really unappreciated, I would be surprised if Toews could match it.

I believe that Toews should win this but do you guys honestly believe that Toews is as good offensively as sedin? I find it difficult to believe because as much as I love toews I do not see an art ross trophy in his career. Defensively, Toews blows sedin out of the water, add in age and the winning pedigree Toews should win. However, I STRONGLY disagree with people believing Toews is as good offensively.

Multiple 100 point player vs a guy who's never even been PPG for a full 82 game season...hmmm seems close... defense doesn't make up for about 20-25 points anually.

This past season is the only season Toews has ever been better offensively, and it is only in a shortened season. It will take more than half a season before I hold Toews as the better offensive player. I think it's more than likely that Henrik outscores Toews next year as well.

I think Toews is severely overrated on these boards, but I'd still pick him over Sedin. Does Henrik even play defense? Add faceoffs and this isn't really that close.

Only because of age? Toews is significantly better in every facet of the game right now besides playmaking ability. It's a relatively easy decision.

But for some reason everywhere Toews goes he wins.

Keep your 100 point player. I'll take Toews.

Yeah him and his fellow top 5 picks look pretty good I must say. Something Vancouver hasnt had the same fate as since they got Sedin.
