Will Switzerland medal in this year's WC?

Will they do it? The voters nicknames aren't public.

I think they will. They are likely to win their group and not get the hardest possible Quarter's opponent.

They'll still lose to Norway like they always do.

Like the Swiss would care too much even if they do, aren't they already in quarters.

thanks for the jinx thread and crushing our chances.

We have a shot (one in ten I would say) to go to the semi.

They will now lose every game 5-1

I don't know why, but I'm still in doubt. We have the tendencies to give hell to the top 7 and then fail miserably to get a W against "smaller" nations. And we usually choke BIG TIME in the elimination rounds.

I always say it like this: As long as there is no real pressure, there is a Top 8. But as soon as we HAVE to win, there is only a Top 7

Too early to tell IMO.

But I'm more likely to believe that in a QF game they will lose to one of the teams they beat early on than that they would win. But you never know.

yeah, this. unfortunately.

we hardly ever get slaughtered by the big 7 anymore, it's the presumably weaker teams we struggle with. I remember too many - unnecessary - losses against France or Germany so I can't really be too optimistic right now. Let's talk again if we win all games in the Preliminary round (which seems absolutely possible right now)

For years I always cheered for the Swiss (except against canada). I like the underdogs. Now they have a great team to watch and a ton of interesting players.

I hope they make it to the finals. That would be a wonderful accomplishment for that hockey program.

Love to see hockey growing in other countries to the point they can compete at a world class level.

Go Swiss!

Meh. The bloody Swedes will arrange themselves 4th in the group and drop Switzerland in the quarterfinal game.

OP: No. They can win game here and there but can't win 10 in a row..or whatever.

The law of large numbers says no but then again not enough games are played in these tournaments to find out who really is the best so the Swiss have a shot.

Sounds like Sweden - Canada quarterfinal, that's going to be huge. Switzerland can certainly defeat Czechs again

It would certainly be about time, that said it took ourselves year to realize that these round-robin type games mean absolutely nothing come crunch time.
