David Desharnais (the midget 60pts guy)

David Desharnais is a center currently playing with the Montreal Canadiens.
Here are his stats, on paper http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p....php?pid=73254

Okay, on the ice I will tell you his pros and cons

--PROS
Great vision
Great passes
Agile guy
Disciplined
Not the fastest, but faster than most
Can do magic on the PP, behind the net

--CONS
Weak physically
Small
Can't work the 1vs 1 corners, because of his size
Creates turnovers, when imposed physically

He's a great player, we would keep him on our team if we have to. The reason why we want to trade him, is because we have too many small forwards, Eller is stepping up and might take his spot on the 2nd line center, but if you place him with 2 big wingers, he can make magic happen on the ice, like he did last season. He actually won most of his 1vs1 puck battles.

What would you trade for this player, if you were interested?

He was awful in the playoffs, a team that is desperate for scoring might offer a 2nd. I can't imagine him netting more than that.

A 2nd?!!?

It's no surprise that the Habs view him as addition by subtraction, he just isn't good.

I wouldn't say he just isn't good, bad players don't usually get 60 points in a season. He started out fine this year, but ever since that contract signing its been downhill. I think he will play better next year, but I see Eller replacing him and dropping down to the 3rd line.

Don't want to write him off completely, but doesn't seem like a top-six NHLer at this point. I don't really see many teams in the market for an undersized overpaid center

Shopping him right now is probably not the greatest idea as his value is at an all-time low.

He didn't have the greatest season but i still think he can be a valuable contributor on a team that rolls three scoring lines. Not this season but the one before, he was centering our only dangerous line night-in night-out. I'd give him some more time see if he can bounce back.

That's not true. He's a 50-60 point center, he's just small and the Habs need to get bigger.

neh, there are better centers and GMDT loves size. Weiss likely to return along with surge of Matthias there's no need to pay for an overpaid midget. Also, if Florida draft MacK they'll be stuck with a horrible contract.

Keep him.

Try him on the wing with Lars Eller and Brandon Prust on our third line. Prust did wonders with the kids and he's an 'adept' offensive player. Two big players who works both way of the ice, not scared of working the corners. David Desharnais is still a gifted offensive forward who can ditch beautiful passes. I think that line would have great chances of succeeding.

Calgary doesn't need more small players.

He'd work well in WPG. Put him between Kane and Scheifele on the 2nd line next year. Only thing I could see us wanting from them though is one of their top 3 D or Trouba. Maybe DD + Emelin/Gorges + 34th overall for Trouba/Buff?

Anaheim's another good fit, with Ryan and Etem. Maybe something around Sbisa?

Chicago as well, with Sharp and Hossa. Would have liked Bickell but he's a UFA at year's end.

Defensively, he is by far the worst Habs forward.
However Id rather hold on to him unless a team offers an overpayment , which I highly doubt would happen
