Phaneuf is slightly better imo, but I would take Bieksa over him for the habs, just the right-handed shot, better contract.

I think both are overrated, but literally, every weakness Phaneuf has, Bieksa is more guilty of.

Phaneuf is Worth 3M$ at most. He is god awful in his own net (I mean Sheldon Souray who is god awful is better defensively then Phaneuf).

Puts himself out of play all the time.

Doesn't know when or not when to rush in the offense.

Hits only to hits and inflate irrelevant stat.

****** attitude for a guy who'se a captain of his team.

both have a very punchable face but I'd rather take Phaneuf's punchable face

Phaneuf was easily a top 10 defensemen this year and top 15 last year.

Wishful thinking. I can name you at least 30 defensemen that I'd pick before him.

Bieksa makes brain farts every game for sure.. Phanuef makes atleaast one brain fart every game I've watched the leafs which I admit is not every game.. maybe it's just a coincidence when I see his play he looks like an idiot.

I would call them pretty much equal.

Phaneuf is better offensively, and defensively both are bad but Phaneuf is definitely worse. Even this year when Bieksa had a bad year by any estimation.

If you factor in the contract, it is not even close.

I think if you include some of the big ones you missed like Piterangelo and Karlsson and remove a couple of the borderline ones like Bieksa and Burns you make a pretty hard case to argue with.

Fair point, I'll just toss these names for good measures : Wisniewski, Ference, Carle, Babchuck, Michalek, Bogosian, Myers, Regher, Vlasic, Staal, Voynov.

Lol Babchuk? Ference? Wisniewski? Myers has not been the same after his rookie season. Regehr has lost a step.

Phaneuf is better than all of them maybe aside from Staal.

Wisniewski is better offensively and somehow is better defensively, yes Pahenuf is that bad defensively.

Ference doesn't have the offensive upside of Phaneuf, but he is so much better defensively that it outcast, Phaneu'fs offensive punch. Yes Phaneuf is that bad defensively.

Babchuck is not as talented offensively and is not that good defensively. But he is generally more reliable then Phaneuf. Yes, Phaneuf is that bad defensively.

Myers, sure he has ups and downs, lately, more downs but given his potential, it's safe to say that in 3-4 years Myers will be far more better then Phaneuf. So yeah, I,d rather have Myers if I had the choice between both.

So, not only Staal is better then Phaneuf, all of them are still better hten him too.

I'm not even going to dignify that list with a thorough response, if you truly believe that those defensemen are better than Dion Phaneuf you're beyond educating and clearly consumed by homerism/pre-conceived notions. I mean if this level of hockey knowledge (or lack thereof) is what you want to put out to the World to have them judge, be my guest.

Maybe Pahenuf is but Phaneuf isnt. This is all I got to before I stopped. If you think Phaneuf is worse than Wiz defensively, than scouting is not a good job for you in the future.
