Langenbrunner: no extension

We already knew this was coming (and maybe it has been posted already), but Langs will not get an extension with the Blues next season.

Not a huge loss. We have players that can play a much better role than him on the 4th line.

So the Blues are currently at 12 forwards and will need 2 more for the active roster. Lehtera isn't going to be one of them.

I figure another 4th line type maybe with some upside. The CPR guys are going to have to earn that ice time every night....and that's when the 4th line is at its best.

And then a center for the top 6/9? Possibly a 3rd line winger and then there is a trade package with a roster forward going out for that center. Should be an interesting off-season for the Blues. The core is all there. The defense is pretty much set. Hopefully a little scoring help is on the way.

I am really surprised he didn't just retire. Langenbrunner really needs to call it a career now.

I'm liking how the fourth line is looking to stay together more and more every day.

I dunno, its hard to know how much that surgery may have helped him. Wherever he goes, it will be a gamble as to whether there's anything useful left in the tank. I can completely understand why he would want to see if his surgery allows him to extend his career at all. There are some teams in the league that I think he could help, even if its as a guy that winds up in the press box a lot of the time. The Blues are just not a team that needs someone in that role right now.

Edmonton could use a guy like Langs, though. There are other teams.

Different player I know, but after Kariya's hip surgery he was still our fastest player on the ice.

Good luck to you Langs.

I don't think Langs was really ever fast though. When he was "healthy" the 11-12 season he was still slow. Who knows though maybe he was really injured the whole time.

I don't want to sound rude because I like Langs but he should have retired like 2 years ago

Langenbrunner was a coach on the ice. However, it's taking up a roster slot as the purge of older players continues from the Blues roster. Just my opinion, it's time for Langs to hang em up just like Andy MaC and Nichol.

Not surprised, but I recall him (I think it was him anyway) saying something about hoping the surgery would get him back to where he wanted to be for next season. I don't think he wants to retire, but I agree that it might be for the best.

Remember when we signed him? Everyone was calling him a locker room cancer. It's almost like people on HF have no idea what the inside of any NHL locker room is like.

Devils/Stars called him that because his play declined. That's it.
