IIHF World Championship 2013

Thought it wouldn't be bad to have a thread about this

Drew LeBlanc made the Roster and after playing 1 game, he has 2 Assists and is a +1. The 2nd A was scored on the PP

Team Finland with 3 former Blackhawks (Kontiola, Lepisto, Kukkonen) and draft pick Antilla. Kontiola is their top line C. USA beat them yesterday 3-1 with John Gibson in net.

Team France with Huet and Yorick Treille. Treille is their first line winger. Beat Russia yesterday 2-1.

So if the US or Canada don't win the tournament it means we suck at hockey right?

2 assists were in the first game against Austria and this last game against France. Scoreless against Latvia, Russia and Finland.

I dont think anyone cares much about this tournament except the players playing the games and prospects like LeBlanc and Gibson. Most xyz teams are a mixed bag of low level players.

Ha I know. I was making fun of some of the Euro fans who try to discredit the US and Canada when they do poorly at this tournament.

Have seen the games against Austria, Russia and Finland. He has a shutdown role and does a good job so far, keeps it simple. Easy to see why Bowman signed him. Fits exactly to our team. He plays with Stapleton and Butler most of the time

It's still a shame to have a roster full of NHL players losing to teams with 3-6 NHL players max.

yeah, but still...the players on canada are all NHL-level. it's kind of pathetic when they lose.

Former Blackhawk-prospect Kontiola is leading all players in scoring after 6 games with:

1 Petri Kontiola Suomi Hyökkääjä 6 6 12 2 4 2 0 57.27

12 points and a +4, when next player(Ilja Kovaltschuk) is at 9 points. Kontiola was also top scorer in KHL-playoffs this year.

Good for him. ****ed-up his audition with the Blackhawks when they had a bad roster. Hope he enjoys borscht.

Konti was fine. He played alright and was shuffled off so veteran filler could play.

he never got a chance from another team... it's not like we made a mistake. 29 other teams thought the same

I don't know why the World Championship is held in such high regard when it always happens during the time of year when the best players in the world can't attend because they're in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Most of the rosters end up being fairly disappointing. I guess it's a good thing Toews won his WC gold in 2007 before the Blackhawks became playoff regulars. He may not have a chance at it ever again.

the US getting Galchenyuk and Oshie is a big boost for them. I cant believe how well they have played so far with the offensive players they have, but LeBlanc has been very good though he could definitely drop with Galchenyuk and Oshie as guys that can play center.

a lot of kids on this US team : Gibson, Kristo, Bjugstad, LeBlanc, Galchenyuk, Trouba, etc .. these kids are getting a great experience playing in a tournament like this.

It's a much bigger thing in Europe because most European leagues' seasons are finished by now so those countries can send a lot of their best players.

Last year the tournament was just getting started when round 1 was over - by which point the Hawks (and all the Canadian teams) were out...so you were probably more aware of it then.

Canada still has Staal, Staal, Giroux, Eberle, Hall and Stamkos on this ice...
