For the record I was half kidding in what I said about raising the chances of drafting Mackinnon. I've been supporting Mackinnon like crazy around here so it was kinda a stab at that. For all we know Sakic and co think Drouin is the BPA and Roy would want to draft Jones. It's all speculation, were in the dark. I like everybody else assume the pick is Jones because it makes too much sense, Roy could play a hand in the draft, we don't know.

I know Patrick Roy is a pretty outspoken person. I know the Avs offered him the coaching job AND the GM job back in the day. I know that's what he does in the Q as well. I'm assuming if the deal is done that was clearly talked about. Sakic clearly still runs the show but I don't think it's absurd to think that Roy could play a large hand in our future from top to bottom with this hire eventually, obviously personal speculation tho.

Roy might need to uplift the roster a little bit to get his system going, we don't really know. For all we know Sakic has told him he has no say, or tons of say. Heck we don't even know if it's a done deal

I just saw the news on TSN. I kind of have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, this would be such a huge improvement over Sacco, but on the other his hotheadedness could get old fast in the locker room.

In either cause, it can't be worse than this last season.

I get that Roy had an edge as a player, but it sure doesn't sound like he's some crazy ******* on the bench. I'm not sure he's really much of a hot head as a coach.

He had the one well publicized incident as coach but I think that was 4 or 5 years ago. Haven't heard much about him losing his mind behind the bench since then.

The only thing I can think of is when he encouraged his son to beat this piss out of the opposing goalie. I'm not even sure if that was ever proven or what the entire story was behind it but pretty sure his son or the player did end up getting an assault charge because of it.

Hopeful line up for next season? I can dream right?
I doubt Radulov would be in our line-up but for god's sake change Ginner with Radulov then.

We say this now, but honestly, who knows. To Sacco's credit he had one decent season.

There was a time when people on here said anyone would be an improvement over Coach Quenneville.

I agree to some extent, and I don't have a huge worry over this, but him motioning towards his goalie son to skate to the other end of the rink and fight the other goalie, does cause me to pause for a second over his emotional hot headedness behind the bench.

I would've preferred Tippett, but there's a lot of question marks surrounding his future and most likely many teams vying for him if he is available, so all in all i'm satisfied with this move.

I'm all for it if the opposing goalie is Anderson.

This is an absolutely awesome news for the Avs and Patrick.

He's such a great and classy guy. I think you're going to love him behind the bench.

a season only made "decent" by a goaltender who stood on his head and took massive amounts of vulcanized rubber each night

Provided it's true, this is certainly an interesting development. The Avs are a really young team, and maybe a guy like Roy would be a good fit.

Anderson had one great season, you mean? That season was all Anderson.

I think this is key. Since Roy has no NHL head coaching experience, someone like Jacques Martin would be a good hire to help him transition to the NHL. I'd prefer not to see anyone like Foote, who would be new to coaching. Hiring the duo of Martin and Boucher as assistants would be probably be my ideal combo.

I'm not convinced Roy's the best choice.

It'll be great to have him back in the organization... but. I thought we wanted a coach with NHL coaching experience?

Did Roy have a full-time goalie coach when he played?

Hopefully he pushes for one for Varly.

I would be shocked if Roy didn't give Varly everything he needs to succeed. That includes everything from a goalie coach, to improving the D-corps, to changing the attitude of the locker room to a more professional one.

This is what excites me most about Roy. I think he will be an above average coach. Not spectacular, good. But with Varly (as well as Pickard and Aitto) being mentored by Roy and Giggy, our goaltending will be outstanding for the next decade.
