Belarus 2014

I am wondering how good the attendance will be? Will there be many fans coming over from Western Europe?

Eastern, western and central European fans are usually the greatest and make the most noise. They will support their to the very end no matter the score, they will always have a good time

Let's calculate:
Flight tickets Helsinki-Minsk-Helsinki = 250
See four Team Finland games = 4x30 = 120
Accomodation = 7x50 = 350
Eating = 7*20 = 140
= 860

In Helsinki:
Accomodation = 7 * 100
See four Team Finland games = 4 * 150
Eating = 7 * 50
= 1650

I don't know the ticket and hotel prices in Minsk, but you know what my point is. I'm quite sure it's cheaper for a Finn to go to Minsk to see WC games than going to Helsinki. I guess there will be nice amount of western hockey fans there, and one reason is that it's a lot cheaper place than cities like Helsinki and Stockholm.

On the other hand, it's more complicated to arrange a trip to Minsk than to Stockholm, so I guess a lot of fans will wait until more details are released before they decide if they want to go. If it's confirmed that visitors won't need visas for the tournament and that there will be specific infrastructures for visitors, that could convince a lot of people who may still be on the fence about going.

Which countries need visas?

Out of all participating countries, only nationals of Russia and Kazakhstan don't need it.

There have been talks to allow holders of game tickets in the country without a visa. I guess we'll have to wait until next winter to see if it is confirmed.

we are getting ready for great russian invasion

as far as i'm concerned, there really was a statement from our authorities that they gonna make it visa-free for those who have tickets.

Belarus is Latvia's neighbour, so there is a probability, that Latvian fans will storm games of our team.
