He gets better in every game. Happy to know we drafted him, and even happier to see how well he played tonight.

Marincin is ready offensively. Needs more poise defensively.

We have a handful of really nice D prospects.

He's developing nicely and should continue to do so in a top pairing role in OKC.

The thing that struck me was how different the Oilers played than the previous seasons. Real noticeable, even the AHL guys. Far better systems in place, and most of all, no collapse at the end. On paper, we beat a better team, and really neutralized the Sedins.

Very impressed actually, They played a smart game, despite all the excuses from the Canuck broadcasters, I felt the Oilers deserved to win.

Really like Jones as well, he is going to be a keeper there. Looking forward to Saturdays game.

Lol @ Rob Brown calling Arcobello "Arcabella" on the Oilers radio post game show.

Oh Nurse was fantastic! I still send him back to junior but I am not opposed to give him a few regular season games, especially if it keeps Garbagekov out of the lineup.

That was like a really good, well paced practice.

Positives:

Nurse (obviously)
Gordon (rock solid)
Hall (in two games looks more dangerous and better than Gagner ever has at C, imo)
Hemsky - nifty plays in the D zone, backchecked
Hunt - who is this guy, looked quite good at moments
Dubnyk - super calm, composed, fantastic night for him made it look easy
Marincin - taking big strides

Neutral:

Eager - up and down, layed the body and looked okay on that fourth line at times
Acton - clearly AHL fodder, I have no idea how this guy is in people's language and conversation for 4th line C
Pitlick - up and down
J. Schultz - looks exactly the same as last year

Bad:

Smitty - career is over
Brown - this guy does nothing and is undersized, has horrible on ice awareness

Good game overall

Thoughts

Nurse- unreal game, even if it was a preseason game. He made great plays against the Sedins and was a beast on the boards, also so elusive getting the puck out of his end. Had some positional miscues but nothing major. I want to see him in 1 or 2 NHL games, but sent down after to shore up his weaknesses and maybe improve his offense

Hemsky- Looked good. Was dangerous out there and was backchecking hard. Best play was when he gave the puck up at the offensive blue line and then backchecked all the way to his face off circle and caused the turnover

Hall- Looked good at center, still has habit for going to the LW wall. Distrubted the puck like veteren center, but also had some giveaways. I want him back at LW as soon as RNH comes back. Sure he looks good at C, imagine how good hed be at LW

Eberle- some good plays, but I wasnt blown away. Good game

Perron- Less impressed than Calgary game

Joensuu- liked his game, better game than before. Could see him on 3L

Ference- gritty, shutdown game

Smyth- anchor to Hemsky and Hall but still has 4th line skill

J Schultz- looked like he did in his 1st 15 games of last season. Great with the puck, great passes and was jumping up. Still nothing special in his own end

Remeber how half of this board was freaking out after Nurse's mediocre rookie tournament? He looked insane out there today. He's a thoroughbred. I didn't think it was possible for someone to be that big and that fast/agile and with those puck skills.

Scenario: Belov comes in and looks terrible. With Nick Schultz playing a solid game tonight (and let's be honest, he's a good bottom pairing guy), would it be THAT far-fetched to give Nurse a few NHL games?

He's getting better every game and tonight he was clearly a factor.

I dunno, I'd just give the spot to the best guy. Give the #7 to whoever else impresses and give the kid a shot.

Might as well. Oilers will need every win they can get. If its possible to play Nurse for some NHL games without losing a guy like Larsen to waivers in order to facilaite it id do it.

IMO it should be Nurse's spot to lose at this point. If Belov or Grebs can't outplay him, he should make the team. It can be reassessed after nine games.

I know it's just preseason, but damn I am happy that we held onto that lead. It always seemed like whenever we'd get off to a great start like that, we'd get torn apart throughout the rest of the game... I was expecting a comeback after that Gaunce goal. Nurse really does keep improving. I don't have a lot to ***** about after that game, wasn't huge on Brown though. Does anyone know if Gordon is alright?

When he isn't moving and is down low, Smyth still has a lot of savvy and slipperiness. Nevertheless, if he even tries to carry the puck for a stride or two (let alone rush the puck up ice) he is completely useless and exposed.

Hey, Canucks fan in peace. Just wanted to say you guys looked really good out there, it seems like you're starting to really put it all together. Also, I really liked Nurse. I wasn't super high on him at the draft, but he looked great out there.

Seems like you guys have a very bright future.

as good as nurse was, id like to see him sent to jr with a big vote of confidence, even if he was good enough to play the 6/7 spot i wouldnt want to stunt his growth, if we wait 1-2 years he will be far better off and we will get a better player. I dont want to rush prospects anymore just because they look good in preseason

Agreed. Let him bulk up a bit more. Nurse at 210-220 is going to be an absolute beast.

I don't like all of this chatter amongst Edmonton media guys on Twitter about Nurse possibly making the team. He looks really polished out there but I want to see him developed properly and not thrown into the NHL regular season fire right away. He's hasn't filled out yet and d-men of his ilk take some time.

Has Joensuu scored in every game for us so far?

I don't see how this guy isn't on the 3rd line...
