Exactly - 2 years ago some cable systems in Mass and RI did not carry Versus - they now carry NBCSN.

2007 Final was a disaster for NBC ( lowest rated prime time show in history of network )

There was one game on NBC that Buffalo and Boston had more viewers than Los Angeles on KNBC.

This series could well have the first Game 7 overtime since 1954.

Agreed, NBCSN was available to what, 55 million homes when the NHL first joined on? Gotta grow that for the regular season ratings. Now it's hovering around 80 million.

Look we all said in 2005-6 the TV is going to the OLN Network?????????

I have been told that Bettman's biggest regret was blowing FOX off for ESPN/ABC. FOX had gimmicks ( the glowing puck ) but they had treated the NHL as well as the NFL.

SportsChannel America was a disaster in the late 80's/early 90's and keep in mind ESPN treated the NHL well in the 1980's.

I do think ESPN SportsCenter is fair to the NHL as several nights in this year's playoffs the NHL has been the lead.

Look one thing I have learned over close to 40 years of working in hockey TV - you can not hook a viewer to hockey UNLESS they see a game in person.

HD has helped - but you need to see a game in person to be hooked.

.
I 100% agree with this I'm almost 50 and that's exactly what happened to me. I didn't start to become a fan until about 12 years ago when I saw a couple of bolt's games in Tampa and thought it was great. I didn't watch on tv until HD came to our location (08-09) as the game just doesn't translate well on the SD 4:3 format. Once HD came I was hooked.

Yeah.

If it's a National(not cable distribution number.) Then it will be 4 million viewers easy.

Sometimes in the past the cable number which is based on HH reach get's posted.

2nd most watched program ever on NBCSN/VS/OLN. 1st was the woman's gold medal soccer game at the Olympics last year.

and that's without bars/viewing parties.

CBC did 2.7 million for that game. I believe the Canadian tv numbers include bars and group viewings.

According to Darren Rovell (the king of sports media) Nielson ratings DO include bars/viewing parties.

Via @stevelepore
Game 1: 2.46M on CBC + 6.358M on NBC = 8.818M viewers
Game 2: 2.724M on CBC + 3.964M on NBCSN = 6.688M viewers

Does not include American viewers of CBC or Canadian viewers of NBC.

If 100 leave home to go to a bar, those 100 are now counted as 1 instead of the 100 they'd be if they watched their own TV.

You get how that works, smart guy?

The game 2 audience for CBC is a truer number because that game was on NBCSN which you can't get in Canada.

The bar thing is just silly. Every group of fans of any TV sport or event that wishes their sport was more popular whines about the bar thing.
It's not a big or important factor.

That 0.3 increase likely bumped the ratings over 4M making it the highest NBCSN/Versus/OLN telecast of all time.

The most watched telecast on NBCSN is actually 4.35 million so I guess it'll be close but should do it.

Compare with Game 3 of NBA Finals (Tuesday June 11)
0.257M on TSN + 14.04M on ABC = 14.297.
Does not include Canadian ABC viewers.
