Which is weird because you'd think the two biggest markets would have a rooting interest for the Blackhawks.

Don't be surprised if Chicago numbers seem a bit small tomorrow because of the power outages

Well at least NHL isn't rigged to get the series to a game 7.

This is one of the subjects always brought up during "Popularity in Canada" hockey debates-that "only" 10 percent of the country watches the Stanley Cup finals-and this is used by both sides to point out their example.

IMO right now there's a group of about 3-5 million Canadian (5 mil when Canadian teams are in it) that watch the playoffs, I don't know if we're ever going to see a day in future when ratings would be something like 15-20 million Canadians (ratings wise) watching Stanley Cup.

again, just like game 1 we got massive storms. a true tale of unlucky timing and terrible weather,. I know many people still out of power and had to listen to the game on radio with candles on...that is pure passion right there folks!

the ratings will be huge, but it seems well over 100,000 holmes lost power for muc of last night and many are still without it now, it will play slightly into the overall number imo.

I really think the Toronto Maple leafs or the Candiens would have a shot at getting 7-10mill for the finals. Espcecially if they met in the Eastern Finals for the right to go to the cup. A game 7 would easily get 10mill. Toronto was getting 5 million I think? Just for the first round towards the end against Boston. Everyone was jumping the bandwagon hard!!!

Overnight ratings show over 1 million Chicago viewers watched #Blackhawks win the Cup

but
http://tvline.com/2013/06/25/ratings...-cbs-premiere/

CBS’ Under the Dome was clearly a hit with its Monday night premiere, drawing 13.1 million total people to troubled li’l Chester’s Mill.

In the coveted 18-49 demo, the Stephen Kingsian drama series scored a 3.2, likely placing second only to NBC’s coverage of the Stanley Cup finals (preliminary numbers to come).

Maple leafs averaged 4.2 million for the series and 5.1 for game 7. To say they wouldn't do close to 10mill in the finals isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Game 6 in 2010 did do a 32.7 hh I do believe. Which is well over 1 million househoulds. Be interesting if this game 6 did better or not? Especially after hearing about the bad weather in the region. Why can't this happen to the NBA?.....lol

Boston received a 33.0 HH rtg. Chicago received a 30.2 HH rtg. Both ratings were tops for each market during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

NBCSportsPR ‏@NBCSportsPR 7m
Last night’s Stanley Cup Final Gm 6 (8:15-11pmET) received 5.6 overnight rating, up 40% from Gm 6 last year (New Jersey/Los Angeles; 4.0).

Fast nationals: 13.14 million, 3.2 18-49. Don't get too excited though--I think the number of viewers is a typo.

TVByTheNumbers is reporting 3.2 and 13.14M viewers... But that's the exact same as what they write for Under The Dome, so there could be a typo.

If not, those numbers are monstrous.

Looks like the NHL might do record viewership. Sucks that there won't be a game 7, but in the end its been a good run for the league. Chicago isn't going anywhere.....for a long time.

So far 3.2hh for the key demo tied with under the dome. The early viewership numbers are 8.31 million viewers. Now there is an adjustment usually later on. So we could see maybe a jump of another 500k....

Solid number in Boston for a non-clinching game - 33

Agree Morris. Would've been nice to see Chicago and Boston both with 40's for a game 7.....and also the surrounding communities getting behind the teams. Record ratings were around the corner.

Stupid Boston and their choking. They could've broke 10M in GM7. God dammit.

But that's like the equivalent of 25 million American viewers watching. And watching a seven-game series played by two international franchises. It's not one game like the Super Bowl, and it features international franchises. The NBA can probably draw around that much in the US for an elimination game with both franchises located in large US markets. But if it were a Vancouver Grizzlies (defunct, I know) - Toronto Raptors final, I doubt it would draw much in the US.

The Leafs were drawing ~5 million for elimination games in the first round. Imagine a Toronto - Vancouver / Calgary final.

My source didn't have programs listed after 4 on WMAQ...that explains it.
