Why do people ask these kinds of questions?? Everybody will say that THEIR team has the best PP in the league.

IMO Colorado easily, EASILY, has the best powerplay on paper though that doesn't guarantee success. If the Avs powerplay does falter for whatever reason then Ottawa, Detroit, St Louis, Dallas, L.A (if healthy) and the usuals will be up there again.

I agree with Vishinator I think the (Western Conference champion) Ducks powerplay looks pretty good and will suprise this year, fingers crossed they don't forget how to score with the man advantage at the end of the season and in the playoffs like what happened last year.

I predict Lemieux and Morozov will get at least 15 powerplay goals each, but they will have no one else with 10.

Though its a homer pick, I'll take Colorado with good reason. Take a gander:

Tanguay - Forsberg - Hejduk

Blake - Morris

-----

Kariya - Sakic - Selanne

Liles - Skoula

-----

Kariya - Forsberg - Selanne

Blake - Morris

-----

Tanguay - Sakic - Hejduk (JAM Line re-united)

Liles - Skoula

-----

I could go on, and on, and on.

i think there are some really great powerplay units, but i would say that it will be
colorado
ottawa
detroit

based solely on the fact that both have great second units as well

for ottawa
smoke bonk white
chara rachunek

I don't know about "the best" power play. The Ducks better be improved over their #16 ranking last year with these players:

forwards: fedorov, rucchin, prospal, sykora, leclerc (IR), chistov, lupul (maybe), smirnov (maybe)

defensemen: ozolinsh, havelid, salei.

I think Kariya is set to play the point, which means Battaglia will see time in front of the crease and Liles will prolly not be on the 2nd PP unit. Of course, it's very easy to change the combos depending on what's clicking and what's not.

Something like:

Battaglia - Sakic - Selanne
Kariya - Skoula

Or possibly bump Kariya to the 1st unit and switch w/ Blake or Morris.

J.M. Liles is a former MSU player. Left 1 year early. I think led all defensemen in points for the CCHA. Finalist for Hobey Baker. Yep, we have high hopes for the guy. Is making very good impression during preseason that it's going to be very hard to send him to the minors.

Oh yea, if you want someone compable in terms of style, then most likely Rafalski. Also similar size as well.

No team can touch that... Mizral's bias against the Avs is showing again.
First off, this is coming from a poster with the handle "RoyIsALegend", so I'll let you draw your own conclusions about bias.

St.Louis, IMO, will have a better powerplay than Colorado. Kariya, Selanne, and Hejduk are all great players. But please, tell me, who is going to crash the net and score the garbage goals? Forsberg?

With St. Louis you have the best prototypical power-play combination:
Tkachuk - a guy who can crash the net, screen the goal, and put in rebounds.
Weight - arguably the best passer in the league. He's very creative with distributing the puck.
Demitra - a great sniper in the slot.
MacInnis - *still* the best offensive defenseman in the game today. Nobody possesses his shot. Nobody, except Gonchar, came close to his 67 points last season.
Pronger - another guy with a great, low, shot from the point. His offensive abilities are underrated.

I'll take MacInnis and Pronger on the PP any day over Blake and Morris.

Don't get me wrong, the Avs will be good, but having a ton of talent doesn't make up for each guy playing to his strength like perfectly matched pieces in a puzzle. For St. Louis, the whole is much better than the sum of its parts.

Of course, I'm only talking about the top unit.

second units, anyone?

powerplay depth, the ability to have two decent units, is WAY more important in my opinion than simply posting the three best forwards and two best offensive D.

do any of you guys actually watch hockey?

You want a second unit?

His handle has nothing to do with his post. He can be as biased as he wants as long as he can back it up, as can anyone else.

Well, if the Avs powerplay even needs garbage goals, you could put Forsberg in front of the net or even a guy like Battaglia. That is, if the snipers on the Avs don't rip it top shelf first .

Tkachuk - He can crash the net, yes. He is definately a valuable asset.

Weight - Definately not the best passer in the league, Peter Forsberg with 77 assists is the best passer in the league.

Demitra - A type of guy that the Avs have oh, three of? Hejduk, Selanne, Sakic.

MacInnis - Blake. Think of all the options Blake has this season. Assists galore.

Pronger - Morris. Morris may not have a high profile yet, but he will, let me tell you.

Fair, but it could go either way.

A ton of talent does not hurt whatsoever. If the Avs don't have a guy to stand in front of the net like you don't think they have, there is more than one way to run a powerplay.

And thats why Colorado murders St. Louis.

As said before, here's the Avs second unit:

Kariya - Sakic - Selanne
Liles - Skoula

That is good enough to be a first unit. Also, the defensemen there could change and have either Blake/Morris double shift, or a forward could drop back.

"Liles"??
The guy is UNPROVEN in terms of NHL experience. He's had ZERO experience in the big leagues, and yet, some Avs homers think that he can play on the Avs' second PP unit.

Fine, put Foote, Skrastins or a forward there. We don't care, whatever works.

Also, answer my question.

Who is your fourth powerplay defenseman?
