Vice president of IIHF Kalervo Kummola wants yearly NA vs EU match

In the match would play one team of northern american players vs one team of european players. Match would be played in na and eu with alternate years system.( Every second year you have home match)

"My idea is the get 10 years deal, where we have clear how and when NHL players participate to Olympics, return of World Cup and organization rhythm of WCS"
Added more:
"My idea has got great reception in na, says Kummola"
"Ryder Cup(golf) is very popular event. In to hockey it would bring more interest in place of hoary NHL all star match"

Bad english

I have absolutely zero interest in that kind of a format. I'd prefer an NHL reg. season game to what is proposed here.

All for it. Would be a lot of fun. An allstar game with meaning that can be held in exotic parts of Europe/North America to grow the sport.

i don't see how players would take this too seriously , sounds like a glorified all star game with the format they used early/mid 2000's

I think it'd be awesome, but getting it to happen is going to be next to impossible. When would you have it where players you actually want to see square off are both available and willing? Preseason, perhaps, but I doubt the NHL would be keen on that and its potential for injuries, not to mention the travel.

This,

Horrible idea, and you cant compare hockey to golf, its like comparing a fat lazy old man on his own walking around in a garden, whit a bunch of competitive teamsport pro-athletes.

This sounds pretty much exactly the same as the NA vs World all-star format the NHL tried a few years ago which I don't think many people found compelling. Besides what would the IIHF have to do with organizing something like this? I don't think there are any players who would make either team that aren't already in the NHL.

That sounds good. Why not ? At least it's better than nothing, isn't it ?

I would rather see another superseries between Canada and Russia or something like that between US and Canada... but this might be a good start

This would be stupid, they did this back in the All-Star game NA vs. World. Don't see this happening at all.

The guy is a cancer of Finnish hockey, dont let him near anyone else.

He has destroyed Finnish player development once and eroded the popularity of the game in general.

He is Kim Jong Kale , he invented Our Game, NA stole it from us.

Getting NA players to go to the WHC is difficult enough. I do not see many of them hopping at the chance to play in an glorified All-Star game in Europe every second year. Perhaps if the Euro leagues could pay for all the insurance fees, family travel plans & nice lodgings, and add a significant prize money... then there may be limited interest among certain players. Good luck getting the big stars to attend.

Why all the negativity? If they could achieve that the players take it seriously and it doesn't end up like the all star game it could be absolutely awesome!
Why should any hockey fan be against one single additional game per year??

Basically the old NA vs World All-Star game? Sounds boring, there's already enough international hockey/competitions to watch.

I like it, but they'll have to pimp the **** out of it to garner some interest in North America. They have to make it a spectacle of the sorts.

Why not swap the all star game for this? I don't think many older players will want to play.

So basically

Team Canada with USA goaltender + Suter + Kane + Parise + maybe Yandle and Kessel

vs

Sedin-Sedin-Ovechkin
Vanek - Malkin - Semin
Backstrom - Kopitar - Kovalchuk
Zetterberg - Datsyuk- Hossa

HM:Koivu, Plekanec, Voracek and Krejci

Chara - Karlsson
Hedman - OEL
Edler - Kronwall

HM:Timonen Markov and Streit

Put this under the IIHF file, "Please pay attention to us, NHL executives and North America hockey fans."

It would be a boring, non-contact friendly. Ryder Cup is cool, but it has over 80 years of history. Hockey already has its own established international competitions and I doubt anyone would care about this game. Seems just pointless.

I don't think he meant it like that, i think that he meant to have 2 teams play against each other, the other one would be an NHL all-star team and the other an All-star team with best players from all of the best European leagues. So it would basically be an all-star game that actually is interesting to watch, but would players at least from NHL take it seriously?

I would rather have watch hockey version of champions league where the very best teams of European leagues would play an play-off tournament with best NHL teams.
