Oilers Needs - Who Meets Them?

#2 Centre w/
45-60 point potential, above average to excellent defense, good on faceoffs because RNH will probably never be really effective in that realm, and physicality down low defensively and on the forecheck.

Top 4 Shutdown Defenseman
Can break up cycles and handle the forechecks of the LA, SJ, and St Louis's of the NHL. Any puck skills are a bonus. Experience is a must.

Another Top Four Defenseman
Experience is a must. Needs to be decently skilled and be able to produce modestly offensively at the very least. Needs to be reliable defensively and play in multiple situations.

Mean Bottom Pair Defenseman
Self explanatory. This is a guy that can move out of the lineup when necessary, but can hit in the corners and probably should be an above average skater. The more experience the better.

Two High Energy Forwards in the Bottom Six
Fast skating workhorses that force turnovers and put defenders on their heels. They need to be able to create cycles and generate momentum, but don't really need to be offensive dynamos. Effectiveness is more important than size.

Goaltending Depth
I think Roy has a decent chance of developing, but the Oilers need another legitimate NHL goalie that can challenge Dubnyk. He needs to be young enough to remain in the organization for a long time.

What players fit these roles?
In the NHL?
Prospects on the Oilers or in other organizations that could acquired via trade?
Draftable? We should predicate this on the idea that the help will be effective within two years.

What do you think the Oilers need to acquire?

I see our D as more of a problem than our Offence

#1. -
#2. -
#3. Petry
#4. Smid , Justin Schultz
#5.
#6.

thats how I feel they are right now

we have a #3 guy in petry and 2 #4 guys in Smid and Schultz( for now , he could become a #2 guy potentially in the future )

I honestly feel what you said about our D is mostly right but still wrong, in that instead of adding what you suggested I fully and honestly believe we need to whale hunt for that one Dman and that will fix most of our problems

#2 C - Draft Monahan/Lindholm
Top 4 shutdown D - Not needed
Other top 4 D - Sign Streit
Bottom pairing dman - MacT just signed him
Energy forwards - Sign Bordeleau and Lapierre
Goalie depth - Hopefully MacT landed Raanta
