The thing that was really evident in this game was Chicago's speed on it's 3rd and 4th lines on their forecheck.

We certainly could've used a healthy dose of Bennett, Kennedy, Vitale in our bottom 6 during the ECF.

Chicago's third and fourth lines are just flat better than ours. Their defenses are better too.

Shero needs to revamp this team so that we aren't completely effed if Crosby or Malkin or both go cold. Make a 4 line team or at least 3 line team that has plenty of depth and ability to control the play.

To be fair, I think Shero did acquire a roster that could have produced a 3 or 4 line team with plenty of depth.

Yep.
I really think anyone in the bottom six that was considered "slow" could've been subbed out for more speedier options.

DB had Bennett, Vitale, Kennedy, Jokinen(very Handzus'esque) and possibly even Jeffrey to sub in.

Morrow got way more ice time then he deserved. As did Adams. Perhaps without Adams, the B's score a couple PP goals but we may have seen a better team with more speed in our bottom six. Probably a better 4 line team as a result.

Why would they have scored a couple of PP goals? I never understand this myth that Adams is some mythical penalty killing God. This team has other people that kill penalties, and better than Adams to boot. He's good at it, but hardly irreplaceable.

It's probably DB's thought process so i went with it.

That Joel Quenneville is at it again: Telling his forwards to go to the net. Genius, I say. Pure genius.

Glad Chicago won. Am not a fan of Boston (the fact that they are Patriot fans alone makes them unlikable), Chicago never bothered me.

Has Dejan written about today's presser yet? Rossi's shill makes me sick.

Their top two lines are just as good in my opinion (with the way DB threw out the lines), maybe even better at times. I've lived in Chicago for the past ten years and watched a lot of pens and hawks games. Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, X, X is a pretty damn good foundation for a top 6. Their 3rd, 4th, D, and goaltending is better without a doubt.

Would you look at that. Young players making a difference on a Stanley Cup team. How does the league keep this such a big secret from Bylsma?

Hell of a game. Almost as good as game 5 of the SCF in 08.

Frustrating just watching the Hawks pick the Bruins apart at times.

The hawks look a lot like the pens in many ways, like others have said they have good speed in there bottom six, its a shame the coach could not swallow his pride and sit morrow and play Jeffrey in one of the games.

I liked the speed that Chicago showed in the bottom six too. You'd hope that we'd try and get some speed into our bottom six looking at it but you can bet we won't and Dupuis will be on there.

The Pens didn't play AS BAD as some of you make it out to be.. They just didn't get the bounces, and got unlucky with some of the saves Rask blindly made or a defender blindly made. They could have played better, but at times the Pens were all over the Bruins too. Just never got anything to show for it.

Agreed, besides game 2 I think the other 3 could have easily went our way. Rask build the momentum early on in game 1 when we we're all over them

Plenty of pucks were bouncing around in front of Rask during the Pens series. Difference is that no one on the Pens was there for the bounce to become lucky. Unless of course you wanted a puck to luckily bounce into the net with no Penguin player within Chara's stick distance.

A few differences between the Pens and Hawks in how they played the Bruins:

1. Hawks forwards have more speed overall and got in on the forecheck every chance they got.

2. They nearly always had 2 guys in the crease. Rask couldn't see a lot of those shots. Shaw battled more with Chara in game 1 than any forward in our whole series. I don't know if it was a lack of desire from the Pens forwards to take the beating or a poor coaching scheme.

3. Chicago D is just better that ours. Keith > Letang in every aspect other than scoring off the rush, Seabrook > Orpik, Leddy > Niskanen, Hjalmersson < Martin (different players but both in top 4. Martin is better), Rozsival > Eaton and Engelland, Oduya = Murray (again totally different players just comparing roles. In a puck moving system Oduya is obviously better but Murray was solid overall). So IMO nearly all of their defense are superior to their comparables on the Pens.

4. They got some bounces, Pen's didn't. I put this on here because it's true. Pens didn't get one single bounce. That said, you have to earn your bounces and the Pens didn't.

5. Bottom 6 is just superior in nearly every way.
