I think we need to be staying away from Richards. We need to be getting strong in the middle. If we want to contending, let's start modelling our team after Chicago.

Toews
Handzus

Big defensively-strong centres. I'm fine with Kadri due to his offensive upside, but these scrubs that are being mentioned are washed out. We don't really need them.

Unless Dolan and Sather are posting on those forums, they're pretty meaningless.

He'll either be bought out this offseason, or next. I'm guessing he's bought out soon after the finals are over, and you'll be free to sign him to a reasonable contract. I don't know if he'll bounce back, though. I think Ribeiro would be a better target.
The Rangers current cap debt is $10.67M - if they traded him now, the remaining cap recapture would fall to the team that acquired him.

They'll amnesty him, but next year, not now - may as well get one more year out of him.

They can't, this is the only year they can amnesty buy out

Thats what I was thinking when I created this thread; that likely one of them would go. With Torts gone, Richards has more of a chance at staying.

I don't see NY thinking twice about using their amnesty on Richards. It's going to be tough selling the notion of keeping a player around worth that much for that long who had such a negative impact on the team especially in the playoffs.

This could be one of the most exciting off seasons to date. With the amnesty's etc etc.
the free agent pool is a little shallow but still some serviceable players there. Hopefully the owners pull the purse strings a little tighter so the stupid contracts don't take flight.

I still like him and would take him but only if he's bought out. His contract still sucks and only if it was a max 3 year term at a respectable cap hit 4-4.5..

IIRC one of the main reasons he went there was because of Torts. He had a good rapport with him at Tampa Bay when they won the comp.
