Captain Serious (ly Underwhelming)

This guy isn't doing much. He's supposed to step up. He's a top-six center and our captain. He played with 16 and 67 tonight, but he didn't do anything with anyone else.

Discuss.

He's not just a "top 6" ... he's our 1c...and typically our best player. He has to play better than this. It's nowhere near good enough.

I agree with you.

But be careful with that statement. The apologist will come storming in telling you how great he's been playing or how he is doing the little things to contribute. This dude is a flat out joke right now. Well the entire playoffs.

Given who he was playing with and what defence pairing he is out against I think he did a good job tonight. He had a great chance to open the scoring off a nice pass from Keith but the hockey gods just aren't rewarding him.

He's been underwhelming in the playoffs. Why should I be careful? No matter how he finishes this series, through Game 3 of the SCF, he hasn't done his job.

He can maybe be a little better in the draws 52%/45%/42% but other than that he hasn't been the problem.

He has one goal in the entire post-season. One ****ing goal. Literally how is that not a problem? Our #1 center has one goal and you don't think that's a problem. Okay.

He's part of a collective problem and a guy that was paid and given the responsibility to be a leader that should break the mold.

He's reportedly an elite player in this league and he has 1 goal and 9 points in the playoffs? Is that the kind of offensive production you expect from a player of Toews caliber?

FWIW, Toews is shutting down Krejci and Lucic, according to the adv. stats.

Regular season Toews is a first line centre who can score 30+ goals and play a great two way game, hence the Selke award this year.

Playoff Toews since the Cup year is becoming more of a 3rd line shut down centre. Playoff Toews is now more of a checker than a scorer.

His s% is 1.7%...only Seguin (1.6%) and Jagr (0%) are worse.

Jagr's played well despite not scoring. Seguin's looked pretty dangerous.

And he's getting beat like a drum. Our squad has no plan to protect him in any way. They showed a montage of Toews taking it in the ***. It's ridiculous. He's probably been a bit disappointing, but no one is helping him at all.

Toews really hasn't been a leader this whole entire playoffs. He melted down against Detroit and if not for guys like Bickell, Shaw and Frolik secondary role players who knows where we'd be. I realize that Kane, Sharp and Hossa have at least stepped up in big games but Toews has not. Where's his OT winner or Multi goal games.

The Hawks have a few #3 centers already. They don't need Toews in that role.

I don't think Toews hasn't been a leader, I just don't think he's the same player he was. There's so very few magical Toews moments anymore, and why there aren't is the great mystery.

There's just something missing.

He's done nothing offensively and it's a testament to the depth that Stan has built that they're even in the position they are without him contributing.

Bolland #3 center
Shaw #3 center
Kruger #4 center
Handzus #5 center
