Not sure if he is our prospect anymore. He didn't want to sign a deal so I think he is eligible to enter the draft again.

He shouldn't be, since he's from Europe. If a team wants him, they've to trade for his rights, I think.

I think a European's rights are held either forever or until they turn 31.

Forever I believe, if Checkmanek wasn't such a goof I think they would have signed htis guy, may have been a little gun shy after checkmanek.

Why? because they're both from the Czech Republic? That didn't work out too bad when Buffalo and Detroit had Dominik Hasek. That's not working out too bad for Nashville with Tomas Vokoun.

A European's rights are held until they are 31, under the old CBA.

Maybe they don't want another Czech goalie named Roman?

In all seriousness, I don't think that signing another goaltender is much of a priority. Not to mention that the guy is 28. He probably has no interest in leaving the Czech Republic at this point.

That is why IMO. It appears to have been a bad experience

it turned around the franchise for Buffalo, which had been mediocre, and is mediocre now and Detroit won a Stanley Cup.

I could be wrong, but I can't see any team wanting to trade for a 28 year old goalie who has not played one second of North American hockey.

Because of his reluctance to accept a possible minor league assignment without a 1 way contract (meaning he gets paid NHL wages whether or not he plays in the minors), I think his value in a trade is no more than a 6th rd pick.

I was always a fan of Cechmanek. Not so much the playoff softies he allowed, but you just had to love the "Headmanek" save
