International Tournaments Discuss international tournaments such as the World Juniors, Olympic hockey, and Ice Hockey World Championships, as they take place; or discuss past tournaments.

So I am really starting to wonder about Canada's goaltending for the Olympics

Jonathan Bernier. He may not play much behind Quick, but he's really good.

Yeah I agree, Riemer is a no go right now, there a plenty of better options. For me #3 comes down to Ward and Smith.

Yup I agree.

Canada's not going to send a backup goalie to Sochi.

You're probably right but its just nice to include him in the conversation. Like, if Luongo, Price, Holtby, Smith are all injured Canada can go with MAF, Reimer, and Bernier

I think there are a few options, and it depends on Brodeur (because if he doesn't retire, I find it hard to believe that they'll not invite him).

Invitation Camp:
Brodeur/Luongo
MAF/Price/Ward
Smith/Holtby

ONE of Brodeur/Luongo will go (as the vet)
then you have to choose between MAF/Price/Ward, and depending in injuries, I'd think that Ward out of that three would be my choice.

then you pick the backup between the last four.

I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned Mike Smith...he was solid at the Worlds and if guys like Crawford are being thrown in the mix...he certainly should be...

I think Luongo, Ward and one of Price/Smith would be my picks if I had to choose right now..really no confidence in MAF...he's looked downright awful the last 2 playoffs in pressure filled situations...hopefully him and some of the guys I've mentioned above all get hot next year and then we'll have a bunch of good goalies to pick from...

Id send Luongo (has won gold, veteran presence), Price (possibly the highest skilled goaltender we send, id start him until he falters), Ward (Another strong option and has proven he can be clutch before.

Luongo, Price, Ward. I think there is a winner somewhere in there.

This,

Smith had a good showing at the WC, and he has shown he is golden in big games.
He was a major factor in the PO both for Tampa and for Phoenix.

Id trust him with the job.

Luongo and Price are likely going to be the top two starters. Mind you, if they play poorly next year, then veteran presence/skill level aside, I don't want either of them there.

As for Cam Ward, I'm a little unsure of him. He'll have an offseason and a couple months of NHL hockey to prove that he can bounce back from his knee injury.

Mike Smith is a name to consider. I found him a bit meh last year after a stellar year before that. I believe he did reasonably well in the tourney a few weeks ago though.

Reimer, believe it or not, will get consideration. If he can play like he did last year, he deserves at least a camp invite. If he plays better next year, I'd feel confident with him in net.

Brodeur I think is too old, unfortunately If you bring him, I think it's on namesake alone, and I think the three goaltenders above will be better #3 options.

I'd go with Price and Smith.

At the end of the day, Canada's gold medal hopes rise and fall with Carey Price.

Luongo is still a good to great goaltender. He has a bad contract and that's the issue he's facing in Vancouver. But guess what his contract doesn't matter when it comes to Team Canada.

Price
Luongo
Smith

For me. Ward narrowly doesn't make it.

You're right: It's his play, which in turn makes his contract bad, which dictates that he shouldn't start for Team Canada.

His contract has literally nothing to do with people not wanting him on Team Canada.

I hope theres more rising than falling, especially when its Price in net.

For me, it's:

Price
Luongo
Ward

You could sub in Smith with Ward, his elite puck handling abilities were noticeable at the WHC this year. Canada has good depth in goal, but the problem is we don't have that one elite tender that all the other countries seem to have (Lundqvist, Quick, Rinne, etc.)

Reimer shouldn't be anywhere near this discussion. Are you serious with putting him on the same level or above Crawford?!?!

if your best options are luongo, price and ward, and you're worried, then you're pretty god damn comfortable.

you've got the goalie that got the gold medal last time, the mvp of the 2007 u20s, and one of the best active goalies in big games/playoffs.

any one of those goalies will be fine in net.

Luongo
Smith
Ward/Price

But I think Canada should send a message and send 3 kids.

Brossoit
Subban
Sparks

Then we will see team Canada shine! They will get out there and work extra hard every shift
