Raise the Jolly Roger - The Pirates Win A Game in California!

Through 46 games with the West Virginia Power (A) of the South Atlantic League...
.345 AVG (3rd in SALLY)
.427 OBP (5th in SALLY)
.650 SLG (1st in SALLY)
1.077 OPS (1st in SALLY)
61 Hits (1st in SALLY)
13 Doubles (8th in SALLY)
13 Home Runs (1st in SALLY)
25 Walks (9th in SALLY)

It's still way too early to buy into him as a legitimate power prospect since this is his first real experience and it's just A-Ball...but the South Atlantic League is notoriously pitcher friendly and those numbers are just beastly. That's at least enough to re-position him as an actual prospect after his...interesting journey since being drafted. That Power line-up is absurd with Allie, Herrera, & Bell (and Glasnow pitching, who may have the best upside of any of our pitching prospects).

He's striking out a lot, but as long as he's walking as much as he is that's of little concern to me, especially as this is his first full season focusing solely on hitting since he was playing tee ball. Trying to place where he is in a mid-season list is going to be interesting.

Draft is in two weeks and the stock of players that should be available when the Buccos pick is still fluctuating almost daily.

So far, so good. Gotta keep pounding Fiers with home runs. Hopefully Locke keeps up his solid pitching. I'm slowly starting to have confidence and faith in him... I believe enough in the intangible of "knowing how to pitch" to think that guys with so-so stuff like Locke and Karstens can be reliable starters. (playoffs is probably another story)

LOL, why would Lucroy even bother throwing that / guess Segura isn't the best defensive SS in the world after all.

Locke just has "it". I feel very comfortable when he's out there. He is ahead of what the hitter is thinking.

Nobody checking this game out? Pretty solid so far. Gorzy pitching for the Brewers. Funny hearing his name again.

Very big. Lots of Pirates teams of the past, especially in Milwaukee, would have fallen apart after that...instead Locke shuts it down and Walker goes deep the next inning.

It's weird seeing Brewers players looking frustrated against us. Braun looked absolutely baffled at that last strikeout of his.

LOL, I love seeing the Brewers players whine about every call. Karstens should just come in to throw one pitch and nail Braun next time he's up -- what a bunch of ****heads.

Very solid outing from Locke today. Before the game, I was worried that the solid right-handed power lineup in the Brewers might start to get to him with some HRs, but he did an excellent job of hitting his spots and being careful. 100 pitches and 6 innings isn't 100% ideal, but in a launching pad like Miller Park, I think it's a very fine showing.

Today sort of marks a turning point for me in terms of Locke. I think his numbers are bound to regress, but the dude is definitely a viable #3 or #4 starter in my eyes.

Good move by Hurdle here to save Grilli -- probably could have risked saving Melancon too, though he handled himself by only throwing 11 pitches.

Hopefully Watson can just skate through this.

Great to see the Bucco's hitting some HR's. Would like to see us hit some with people on though. Guess I shouldn't complain since we are winning though, right?

I've been excited for this team the last two years, and said I wouldn't do it again. Unfortunetly, I'm getting hooked. When the Pens are done, we'll see as that's when I'll start devoting all my attention.

The dude's pitching lights-out, no question. Peeps have been quoting the "regress" term recently but evidently Mr. Locke hasn't got that particular memo. Or maybe he just chooses to ignore it and will prove us all wrong.
Wouldn't it be nice to trot out 4 or 5 starters all year long who could be counted on
for a QS almost every time like the Braves used to do 15-20 years ago? Stranger things have happened. And if you're a betting man odds have been against us for so long that something has got to give. Right?
Go Bucs!

Well another one of those, or a couple base runners, and we will see Grilli.
