Crowd was absolutely electric. It's a shame baseball players aren't allowed to show emotions.

Nice work by McCutchen there... Zito is serving them up tonight, gotta take advantage and get into that pen. Liriano looks ok, but the Giants are showing pretty good discipline against his low stuff.

Big strikeout there, now to get Pence. Another good time for a strikeout, and Pence is a free swinger.

****, **** this slap hitting garbage. What a boring team to watch.

Edit: more nice work by the top of the order. Time for Cutch to put an exclamation point on it.

I'm glad this guy is squeezing McCutchen while consistently not giving Liriano any calls at all. Hurdle should be out there taking his head off. What a joke. Seriously, all MLB umpires should be sent to the gulags.

That is why I am in favor of balls and strikes being called by a machine. Takes the human factor of BS out of the game. Such as "player X hasn't been in the league long enough to get that call". While old man vet can paint the corners and beyond and get calls. See the career of Tom Glavine.

That's a home run. You can see it hit the seat.

Not liking this matchup....Watson vs. Posey with 2 RISP.

EDIT: bloop hit, scores 2. Pretty unlucky there, but Watson just not getting it done.

Whoa, decided to go for a walk and this turned into a bit of a back-and-forth laugher. Would have been nice to save some of this support for Morton tomorrow, but a solid win against a pretty decent team. A sweep would be some icing on the cake.

I don't know of Mike Rosebaum, but his Top 50 prospects, he has 5 Pittsburgh Pirates in it.

Cole, Taillon, Polanco, Hanson and Glasnow.

Great to see Glasnow make a list, even if it's not one of the top lists out there.

He's got as much potential as any pitching prospect in baseball right now...you just have to make note that he's 19 and his floor is very low.

edit: Perfect example of Glasnow's stuff - he has a 13.8 K/9 stat in West Virginia right now, striking out 80 batters in only 52.1 innings while allowing only 23 hits.
And his floor - he's walked 35 and hit 5.

Yeah, Glasnow has been making a believer of a few scouts who have seen him. He's still got a long way to go, but he has definitely proven himself as a viable prospect this year. Kingham is another one to watch, just promoted to AA, and if he finishes strong, he might also end up in Pittsburgh by the end of next season.

Oh man, Burnett with a right calf injury, missing next start. Not good news, though it doesn't sound serious.

Busy day...Burnett to the 15 day DL, Contreras released, Morton activated, and Polanco promoted to AA.

Here's hoping Charlie is ready...

Polanco...what can be said? He's done so well at every facet of his game and improves with each passing week...I was expecting him to get the promotion at some point, but he's a full month and a half before I figured. For a conservative organization like the Pirates to advance him after only 57 games in high-A speaks volumes about what they think about the kid.

FWIW, anyone looking at this stat line this year and wondering what the big deal is has to take note that the Florida State League is played entirely in Spring Training stadiums in high humidity, it is easily the most pitcher-friendly league in baseball.
