Basically hoping to get mostly bottom six guys who's main role is strong defensive play, though it's ok if someone is a bit of a tweener on a 2nd line or something. Even if you don't think your team has any strong defensive forwards on the bottom lines, please mention who you think are the best of the group.
  • Player can be a pending UFA - As long as they are currently with your team
  • Player must be 23 years old (as of now) or older - To eliminate young offensive two way players like O'Reilly or Landeskog
  • Player can not have more than two 40 point seasons in the last 7 NHL seasons - To eliminate the Bergeron's and Staal's

If a few of you have time to stop by this thread and add a couple names, that'd be awesome. Try to limit it to the two best guys, but if you feel the need to add more that's fine. Thanks for any info you feel like sharing.

Erik Condra, Colin Greening and Jakob Silfverberg are what you are looking for.

I think Silfverberg might not be what he's looking for; my expectations are that he passes 40 pts more than twice in his first 7 years, so he probably falls into the up and coming offensive guys category (though not at the level of Landeskog/O'Reilly).

Condra is for sure the right guy, Greening may work, but I don't see him as a defensive specialist. Smith was used in the shutdown role this year and looked ok, though got lots of criticism for not providing the same agitation and toughness he provided in prior years.

For our team I would say Condra and Smith this year.

I had Smith and took him out because at times he played against other 4th lines or 3rd lines whereas the others were more consistently going against higher lines except for the time when Smith was subbing on the 1st.

The other two save condra, only really faced top lines when they were on the top line with turris, where as smith was used as a shutdown 3rd line,
