Proposal: Chara for Luongo

More specifically, Chara + Emery for Luongo + Krajicek, though the prospects being exchanged aren't the key to the deal.

Certainly controversial, but it fills a definite need for both teams.

If I was Florida, I wouldn't do it... I just value Luongo too much as an asset to move him.

Neither team would do this. There aren't too many defenseman who are 6-9 and can score 14 goals a season.

Fills a definite need but opens a gaping hole. I think it would be easier for Ottawa to fill the gap to an extent (I don't think Chara could be replaced though). Florida, otoh, I don't think has the resources to even come close to filling the void Luongo's departure would create. I don't think they even have a reasonable stop gap.

Not that Chara isn't a special player in his own right, but I think you'd really have to overpay to pry Luongo away from Florida.

I think Chara is a great defenseman..but Lulongo has the skill to one day be the best goalie in the league...and that is quite valuable..having the best goalie in the league..ask the Devils or Avs (Roy), etc.

Yeah Chara shouldn't be anywhere near the worth of Luongo.

No doubt -- but if you're Ottawa do you trade him?

Wasn't part of the point of Martin going to Florida is that he actually has faith in the goalie there?

Is Florida goin to get Havlat in this deal as well? I don't think Florida would trade Luongo by himself for Chara and Emery, let alone toss in Krajicek as well. Ottawa will have to add in a bit to get both from Florida.

Maybe Spezza could be part of the deal - Martin was BIG fan of his!

Value wise it's not that bad but I don't see these two teams trading away two of their best players. Chara is a top 5 defensman and Ottawa would be crazy to trade him and the same goes for Luongo.

If it was Luongo and Krajicek for Chara, Emery, and Meszaros *maybe* Florida would do it.

Florida wouldn't do it. Chara is a an awesome defenseman, near the top of his class and will be for many years, but so is Luongo, and he looks poised to become the league's best goaltender for many years to come. IMO, that is valued higher in today's NHL moreso than a top defenseman.

You have to give something of value to get value. Ottawa needs a top goalie BAD. They can afford to trade a top defenseman because they have players like Redden, Phillips....Mez and possibly Vol to step up. Now if Ottawa did not have Redden, it would open a whole but they already have a #1 defenseman. I don't see a problem with trading Chara.

Yes of course, because you are not a fan of this team. lol

Sure Luongo is great, but moving Chara for him? RL has never played in the NHL playoff and we don't know if he can translate his success from the regular season into the playoffs.

IMO opinion that deal could get through. Very fair value wise. Not that I say that it will.

Ottawa doesn't NEED a goalie right now.

If Hasek doesn't return or doesn't return to form, then they can take a look at Prusek and Emery and make the decision based on their play.

However, if the season starts on time, Hasek will be their goalie and they will be in excellent shape in nets for the first time in their history.

The trade as suggested favours Ottawa slightly, so they'd have to sweeten the pot. Maybe they could throw Martin favourite Todd White and a prospect in to balance things off.

WOW...I even justify the reasona s to why Chara would be movable and yet posters still use the "you hate the team comment"...some people's post are quite a waste of space.

Value wise close, but not good in Florida's POV IMO.

Who does Florida have to cover up for Luongo? Jamie McLennan

Who does Ottawa have to cover for Chara? Wade Redden

Florida wouldn't and shouldn't do this, since it opens up a huge hole in a place, where they can't cover for it.

There are very few people in the league who I would trade for Luongo, and Chara isn't one of them.

As Diaboli said, losing Luongo would be too much of a blow for Florida to take.

Who would take up the slack in Fla? Emery (part of the trade equation)? MacLennan?

No. It would take at least an NHL- level goalie coming back to Fla for them to consider moving Luongo.
