Matt Frattin

What are your thoughts on this guy?

Every time I watched him in the AHL, he was scoring goals left and right. His ability to score from the slot, or in front of the net was astounding.

Yet at the NHL level, not only does he struggle to find the back of the net, he rarely uses his laser beam shot.

I think he has top line potential if he can put it together.

What do you think his potential is, what are the next steps he needs to take, what is holding him back?

He was great in the playoffs. Love how he can shield the puck with his body and power from the outside to the inside. I'd have him on the 3rd line next year to start.

he needs to be more noticeable, use his body more, when he is doing that, he is a legit 2nd liner

He needs to be more confident with the puck. And he needs to get himself into a good spot to use his shot. He should be on the half boards to use his slapper on the 2nd PP unit. He doesn't have the best hands so he should let kadri wheel it into the zone more.

I am impressed with his strength for a smallish forward. His hits and core strength are very strong.

I think he does best when a playmaker is on his line. Frattin is more of a pure finisher so having someone to dish the puck is essential for him.

I feel like he doesn't get into position to use his shot more at the NHL level.

that injury really set him back too. he was like on fire, and then his knee flared up (I can't remember if it was based on repair, or what), but then he was benched for a while then played then benched again. I think a good summer, and training camp and he'll be back to rights.

I thought it sucked that he wasn't able to score any more goals after he returned from that surgey on his leg, because he was playing great prior to that with 7 goals in his first 10 games. So hopefully he can get back to that pace for next season.

Ya he needs to get back to what he was doing then.

He was fearless on the ice going to what ever area he needed to to put the puck in the net.

He also looked a lot more confident with the puck.

I love Matt, but that is his MO.

He's a house afire at times, then disappears for a long while.

What a stupid mentality. Let's trade every player that has a rough patch during the season. I find it hilarious how you mention he came back from an injury and neglect the fact that it might have affected why he didn't produce as much after returning.

Your prototypical 3rd line grinder with 15-20 goal capabilities. At 25, what you see is what you're getting.

So, by your logic, we should have traded Reimer last year? After all, he came back from an injury, he was healthy enough to play, but didn't perform as well?

He also played with grabo alot, that hurts everyone's productivity. Lol
When he plays with a pass first Center like kadri he was playing real well. He needs a good pass first Center.

I consider him a younger Cmac. He will replace him next season.

ther is a huge difference between not performing as well and not performing AT ALL. It wasn't that he did perform as well he simply didn't perform.

As for Reimer he's in a different boat altogether.he's shown high level play for much longer but i'm not 100% comfortable with him either yet but i'm WAY more comfortable with him then Frattin at this point.

To me, it sounds like you're expecting way too much out of him. He'll never be more than a 2nd/3rd line tweener with a good physical game. He's probably the same calibre of player as MacArthur. Someone who can contribute, but definitely streaky. Combine the fact that he's a streaky player and he had mid-season surgery, it's not too surprising that he couldn't get going again.

Also, I thought he had a pretty solid playoffs. He was buzzing quite a bit, but couldn't get a goal to save his life.

Im inclined to agree with this. Top line potential? not remotely close. At this point, given his college career and troubles with the law, im just happy he's an NHLer. Under perfect circumstances, he could put up Tucker numbers (20-30 goals, 40-55 pts), but that's about it.

He hasn't had a full season at the NHL yet. I think he still has more to give.

His shot is top notch even by NHL standards.

I would be fine with that. If he also brings his physical game to go with those numbers, he would be an excellent 2nd liner.

Keep him with Kadri and give him PP time.

We could make good use of that laser beam wrister/slapper. The guy scored Stamkos-esque goals in college, North Dakota had a similar PP set-up like Tampa and they had Frattin on the half-wall taking those slappers.
