MacKinnon with the hattrick. MVP? Oooooh, I hope Colorado doesn't pick him.

Take that to the bank !

You don't remember Jones and Trouba running over the competition during the WJC ?

MacKinnon did it in May...

But Jones has been the best prospect through the whole season.

Don't worry.

Man, I'm bummed just thinking about Avs taking Mac which means I'll be devastated if they actually do call his name.

Combine this week.

And there it is. MacKinnon is the MVP. Just like someone else I know.

Mac with 2 hattricks against Jones in 8days, including 5points in the Championship game tonight. God I hope the Avs don't pick him. I would much rather add him to our top line then Jones to our D core! We need a top line center to play with Huber and it really looks like Mac is that center. The Avs already have a top line center in Duchene so they would be better served taking a top pairing Dman. Hope it works out that we both get our guy next month!

Losing the lottery is going to hurt us. We should have first shot at Mac, and we don't. Not good.

I'm really hoping for Mac, but Jones would be more than fine. If anything, I'm happy that Drouin is probably out of the question for us because I can't see Tallon passing on Jones or Mac now.

Guys... You are all forgetting that you are watching Sportsnet...

Sportsnet is sold to Canada's pride and flag... They ain't going to hype Jones as the guy when they have a great canadian kid being named the tournament MVP.

Don't worry... We will see what kind of impact the tournament will have on the rankings when Bob McKenzie give up his final rankings.

I don't expect it to be that big of a change.

And I don't expect the Avs to pass on Jones.

Avs have a huge need on D, Jones is a hometown kid, and he'd be the first African-American taken first overall. He'll be an Av.

I'm not buying it. You take the best player at #1 and
MacKinnon is it. Florida Panther fans, be prepared to draft a D-man. Again.

Mac is the best player why, because he had a good Memorial Cup? Jones has been the consensus #1 all season long, so wouldnt he be the best player at #1? I dont think Mac has seperated himself from Jones, instead, he has added his name into the conversation for the #1 pick.

Wrong. MacKinnon was the consensus #1 for the first half, Jones was the #1 after the WJC and throughout the second half. The Memorial Cup was basically the tiebreaker and MacKinnon was the MVP.

MacKinnon is the number one prospect for the fans, sexy pick, shiny new toy syndrome with his recent MVP title at the Memorial Cup... Remember last night ? Drouin won CHL MVP and Seth Jones won CHL Prospect of the Year...

Jones is the consensus numero uno through the whole scouting community...

Don't know which one is the more accurate...

MacKinnon wasn't the consensus number one in September.

He won a vote against Seth Jones (by Bob McKenzie) by a count of 6-to-4...

In the last poll made for TSN, Jones was ahead of everyone by a count of 8-to-2 and one of those two votes went to Drouin... That's what you call a consensus number one pick !

Preliminary, it was Jones and Mac, neither one was consensus, but from the midway point on, its been all Jones. You cant go wrong with either prospect TBH, but I still think Jones would be ranked #1 by most scouts.

MacKinnon had a lousy second half to his CHL season, there's no doubt about that. It's almost as if the stench of Steve Spott's wonderful coaching at the WJC had stuck with him when he went back to Halifax. He really amped up his game towards the very end and in the playoffs/Memorial Cup. It's a tough choice, but like I said earlier, to me, Jones will be a star player, but MacKinnon has superstardom potential and is the true gamebreaker of the two. Jones is the safer pick, but MacKinnon's ceiling is much higher.

Being at this game, I think we're going to be picking from Jones or Drouin. Colorado would be stupid to pass up MacKinnon.

I wouldn't read too much into MacKinnon's WJC performance with Spott at the helm. He couldn't motivate drunk 18 year old boys to go to a strip club, let alone a hockey team to accomplish anything. I'd say Jones is a "safer" pick, but MacKinnon is a true gamebreaker.
I know that MacKinnon played largely on the fourth line because Canada was stacked at center, but you were trying to use Jones big WJC performance to hint that scouts inflated his worth because of one tournament, but a) he DID show big rather than MacKinnon who might have if played at wing but we'll never know, and b) Id say the rest of Jones' draft year has been better than Johnson's was. Johnson was really not that impressive even at Minnesota. All he had was that WJC. Jones has also had a fantastic playoff run and was identified as a stud for this draft even a year ago.

I wouldn't think that the Avs will put all of their emphasis on just the Memorial Cup. They know what both players are capable of and just because MacKinnon had an amazing game, I don't think it will make their decision finalized. Jones is more of the type of player that they need to keep the rebuild going. I'm sure they'll analyze the positives and negatives of every possible scenario for this coming season and the future. I have trust that Tallon will do whatever it takes if MacKinnon is indeed his pick, so I'm not too worried.

I still think Colorado ends up with Jones, maybe milking us out of a pick or prospect for us to take MacKinnon.

They simply do not need another center, and probably do not want to be Edmonton 2.0

I'm not worried yet.

But I will say that if we lose out on Mack, I'm expecting Tallon to take Drouin.
